Rather than a retread, why not try him as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? He's 38, and he was hired as Oregon HC in 2022. He's currently got Oregon undefeated in the Big 10 defeating Ohio State and Michigan. He's a defencive coach, which means he'd be able to help build our defence. I love what he's been building with the Oregon Ducks, and I could see him building something great for us.

Plus, I love the culture he's brought to the Oregon Ducks. I think, since we'd be his first stop in the NFL, he'd be able to deal with Jerry, and he might be able to bring a level of the culture he brought to Oregon.

College coaches have been notoriously bad in the NFL. I believe you have to go all the way back to Jimmy Johnson for the last time one actually succeeded.

Sure, but I think Lanning is going to get a call from an NFL team at some point, and I think he could be a good choice. Plus, he is young and could have some innovative ideas for our team.

He probably will someday if his teams keep winning. Still, think about a few of the most successful college coaches and how they failed miserably in the NFL. Those guys had accomplished much more than Lanning has to this point. It's not an easy transition from NCAA to NFL.

No doubt that it's a hard tradition, but I think he'd at least be a fresh new idea at HC. He probably would have some innovative ideas that could move this team to a better future.

That's a possibility, but wouldn't that be worth the risk vs a retread or Kellen Moore?
The problem is, Jerry doesn’t think like normal football people. If he hired HCs based on who gives us the best chance to win, we would have never had folks like Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, and Jason Garrett.

I like Dan Lanning. But he’s not the kind of HC Jerry looks for. His first and foremost criteria is whether or not he’s comfortable with that coach regarding how much that coach will let him meddle. That is the most important criteria to Jerry.

I‘ve said this for years, Jerry Jones doesn’t think like normal owners about his HC.

Oh, I know he doesn't think like normal owners and all that. Still, I'd love it if he made an exception for Lanning.

Pete Carroll had a lot of NFL experience before he coached in college, including being a former HC.

Well they have to start somewhere, and I think he'd be good with us. Might take him a season or two to adjust, but, when he figures out the NFL, I think he will be good.

This guy will be the reason Oregon doesn't win a title.......and you think some of McCarthy's in game decisions are bad......this guy is worse.
