How about Keith Brooking for Mo LB?

And why do you hate Beckwith? Just curious.

I am just not a big fan of his. He's hurt an awful lot and does not seem athletic or big enough. I'd as soon just keep Burnett if he is who we are replacing him with.

I would prefer younger and cheaper. This is another Zach Thomas signing waiting to happen.

The only plus is that I am sure Wade Phillips is familiar with him and some of his best seasons were in his 3-4.

here's some UFA LBs

Jordan Beck, UFA, Denver Broncos
Monty Beisel, UFA, Arizona Cardinals
Angelo Crowell, UFA, Buffalo Bills
Channing Crowder, UFA, Miami Dolphins
Tyjuan Hagler, UFA, Indianapolis Colts
Leroy Hill, UFA, Seattle Sehawks
Willie McGinest, UFA, Cleveland Browns
Carlos Polk, UFA, San Diego Chargers
Sam Williams, UFA, Oakland Raiders

that's in addition to Ray Ray, Bart Scott, Karlos Dansby, Terrell Suggs, Mike Peterson, Eric Barton, Jonathan Vilma, all who I don't think would be worth the cost, and RFA Michael Boley

if Leroy Hill is a UFA, he's the guy I go after, ultra-speedy and productive

Barton might be economical. Crowder might be pricey, but he is who I would go after if we were serious about investing in the position. Hill is a good player, so is Hagler. I do not believe they are 3-4 material, but if Phillips can go smaller there like he does at nose tackle, so be it.

Hill looks pretty stout to me, we just need a guy who can run sideline-to-sideline at WILB

Bradie and the linemates are supposed to protect that position anyways

I don't think he's going to come cheap, he's a nice player and has a long career ahead of him

if we want to go the economical route, I say sign Monty Beisel and draft a young guy

Beisel isn't economical. He would fall into the "cheap" and "desperate" category.

I watch alot of Falcons games because my brother is a big fan. I can tell you Brookings is DONE. Zero upside. He should have retired years ago.

We literally watch Falcons games and laugh at the guy.

I'll pass.

Co-sign. One of my good friends is a Falcons fan, so I've caught my share of Falcons games the past several years.

Brookings is done. In all honesty, I'd rather give Carpenter a shot before I went with Brookings.

he's just a stop-gap, or at least rotation player

I'd rather we build through the draft

oR.... steal Boley.

um channing crowder?

He's going to demand a pretty penny. If they want to go young and expensive then he would be their best choice in FA.

Vela mentioned this today.

I am all for it.

Good guy good player, knows the system and probably will not be expensive.

I was hoping for Brooking in 1998 when we took Ellis instead. He's a little long in the tooth now but I'd still take him in a heartbeat. He hasn't missed a game the last 8 seasons but has declined since 2005.

I'd sign him and draft a guy. That's assuming we don't re-sign Burnett.

So will the opposing team. Over. And over. And over. And over. Ad nauseum.

Brookings could only play James' SILB spot, no chance at WILB. Just does not have the wheels anymore. Zach, for all the caterwauling, is older but still better in space, much better.

I would rather trade for a WILB, the FA options are either too costly (Dansby) or not much of an upgrade (even Leroy Hill). I'd go after a struggling but talented player (e.g. Channing Crowder) in a trade. Chiefs are looking to rebuild their LB corps, Derrick Johnson may be available. DJ would be a nice WILB in Wade's scheme.

Perhaps a package of Ellis (they need passrushers too) & Carpenter and/or a 2010 pick (2nd day).

Or give them both Ellis and James for DJ (and a 2nd day pick/player?), and resign Zach for cheap. Dallas will have to draft an ILB (or two) and I don't think James is the mentor type. He likes to talk about leadership, but I have never seen/heard of him taking a LB under his wing (ie Burnett or Carp). Zach is exactly the mentor type. And he teaches by example.

He was a good player. Not anymore.

If we are going to steal a Falcon LBer, it better be Boley.

Thanks to Cowick on another board for the find... Was this discussed? If so, I missed it.

I'd love this, as long as it was cheap enough. Brooking may not have many years left, but he's been an excellent and intense player for years now.

Honestly I would hate it. Brooking is incredibly overrated and is terrible in coverage. Plus he's old.

I'd rather fill ILB with a draftee. I'd also rather see us keep Zach Thomas than bring in Brooking, and I'd MUCH prefer Brunett over Brooking.
