I like Hayden. He's a solid player. The problem with solid is it can be replaced. The good thing about solid is you can live with it. Mackenzy Bernadeau, for example, was/is a solid OG. He was part of a much improved O-line last year, and had we landed one of the defensive players we wanted to in this past year's draft, he would have been a solid player on this year's O-line. But we had the opportunity to improve with Zack Martin and we did, and it made all the difference. Replacing a solid starter in Bern with a rookie All Pro in Martin brought this O-line from very good to elite and best in the league. You could live with solid players. But if you have solid players surrounded by solid players, you're gonna be in trouble. You can live with a Doug Free and Bernadeau on an O-line and still be very good, but you need those Smiths/Fredericks/Martins around them to make it very good. We need talent on the D-line. Hayden is replaceable. We can live with him. We might even win a Super Bowl with him. But he can be replaced, and he should be replaced if we intend on becoming an elite defense. We could even live with Hayden as the starting 1-tech if we had some elite DEs and an elite 3-tech playing next to him. But we don't, and our D-line is in need of a major improvement. I view Tyrone Crawford as an up-and-coming soon-to-be borderline Pro Bowler. I can see him being a top 7 or so 3-tech in the league. He's a very good all around player. He won't be Aaron Donald (who I think is on the way to becoming All Pro and potential DPOY), or Suh (who is already there), but he'll be a very good player in this league. Outside of Crawford, we have nobody. We have an aging an inconsistent Spencer, and an overachieving journeyman Mincey. We need to improve every position of the line, except maybe starting 3-tech.
