How about this guy? Seems like since we've gotten him we've been trying to replace him, but there he was on the final drive giving it his all.

Not saying he's all-world or anything, but he's been a steady presence when needed and plays with a high motor from what I can tell. Kudos to him.

He is who he is but he epitomizes
The team "fight" I've been saying this all season. Sort of an unsung hero

Yea, agreed.

I like Hayden...but there's a reason Josh Brent is still on this team.

speaking of, did Brent play? I had people at the house watching the game so it was hard to really concentrate on personnel.

Yea - idk how many snaps he got but it seemed like he was in there quite a bit. Not all that noticeable though.

hayden is a solid player. he is not going to pressure the qb much but he is a nice guy to have in there who gives it his all every play. i suspect those who think he will be replaced will be disappointed because he will be back. but we need a dt who can pressure the passer next to crawford on passing downs. melton is the guy i really don't think returns

Hayden will be around...until they find someone better than him. So far they have not put a big emphasis on the DTs in top half the last couple of drafts...hopefully that changes this coming draft. D.Lawrence was not drafted as a DT so he does not count...before someone tries to bring him up.

Hayden is okay if you want a go who will jump on the pile 7 yards downfield. He just doesn't get off blocks and doesn't command double teams. He also gets almost no push in the middle during his pass rush.

He is a bad player but a durable and hardworking guy. There is a reason he was out of the league in 2012 before we came calling. I do wish him well but I hope we have Bishop, Coleman and/or Brent manning the spot at DT next year and not Hayden.

I thought that roster spot would be upgraded last off season so I'll really be disappointed if it isn't this off season.

It's weird as a fan because he is the type of guy that you want to root for, but also the type of guy that you want to see upgraded in the future. He is Mr. Hustle and gives everything he's got and plays a lot of snaps; however, he is also very limited from a talent perspective. If the Cowboys had a bad-arse 1-tech, Crawford and Mincey would probably have had way more sacks this season.

I like Hayden. He's a solid player. The problem with solid is it can be replaced. The good thing about solid is you can live with it. Mackenzy Bernadeau, for example, was/is a solid OG. He was part of a much improved O-line last year, and had we landed one of the defensive players we wanted to in this past year's draft, he would have been a solid player on this year's O-line. But we had the opportunity to improve with Zack Martin and we did, and it made all the difference. Replacing a solid starter in Bern with a rookie All Pro in Martin brought this O-line from very good to elite and best in the league. You could live with solid players. But if you have solid players surrounded by solid players, you're gonna be in trouble. You can live with a Doug Free and Bernadeau on an O-line and still be very good, but you need those Smiths/Fredericks/Martins around them to make it very good. We need talent on the D-line. Hayden is replaceable. We can live with him. We might even win a Super Bowl with him. But he can be replaced, and he should be replaced if we intend on becoming an elite defense. We could even live with Hayden as the starting 1-tech if we had some elite DEs and an elite 3-tech playing next to him. But we don't, and our D-line is in need of a major improvement. I view Tyrone Crawford as an up-and-coming soon-to-be borderline Pro Bowler. I can see him being a top 7 or so 3-tech in the league. He's a very good all around player. He won't be Aaron Donald (who I think is on the way to becoming All Pro and potential DPOY), or Suh (who is already there), but he'll be a very good player in this league. Outside of Crawford, we have nobody. We have an aging an inconsistent Spencer, and an overachieving journeyman Mincey. We need to improve every position of the line, except maybe starting 3-tech.

Good post. Yes, any 1 individual DL on the Cowboys is OK but as a whole they need to add that All-Pro type player like they did on the OL with Martin. It doesn't have to be any specific position on the DL because that 1 great player will make all of the other players better. It seems like DE is the biggest need, but image how much better the DEs and Crawford at the 3-tech would be if Suh was playing the 1-tech position (Suhs plays both the 1-tech and 3-tech in Detroit).

Yep, now that I think about it, I think Suh would be perfect. He's that rare guy who has the power to play 1-tech and the speed to play 3-tech. We've also seen how elite he can be at both stopping the run and rushing the passer. I don't remember the exact numbers, but with Suh in the lineup the Lions' run defense went from above average to best in the league. And he's one of the best pass rushing interior guys in the league. I think he'd fit our defense more than even JJ Watt. That interior combo of Crawford and Suh would be so nasty. I'm tired of Melton. He's a situational guy. You don't pay situational guys starter money. I remember reading Marinelli say that even when fully healthy, Melton's ideal snap count is about 30-35. That's not worth resigning.

Yes, I mentioned the snap count in regards to Melton in the past. Suh plays about double the snaps that Melton plays. Even if Melton had a terrific season, Suh would be worth double just based on the snap count.

Suh really is a terrific player but that gets overshadowed by his antics. He reminds me of Reggie White in that he has the power of a guy that weighs 330 but the quickness of a guy that weighs 260.
