How about trying a LB at TE/FB?

We have an abundance of good, athletic LBs right now and few TEs. Would it be worth a shot to try a LB at TE tomorrow and see what we may have?

I'm thinking Sharpe or Leon Williams. It is going to be tough for Sharpe to make the cut at LB but he displayed some decent hands on the INT and he looks like he wouldn't mind hitting someone.

Might be worthwhile to take a look at LB Brandon Williams, Butler, and Jason Williams at TE for a little bit this preseason as a TE in emergency situations.

Didn't we move a LB to FB years ago? Was his name Robert (Something?)? Tuinei moved from DL to OL, IIRC.

That leaves them one day to learn a new position. Way too risky for the game, but I guess it couldn't hurt once they return to camp.

Robert Thomas may have been who you're thinking of.

I think the Packers recently did the same thing.

The player's name escapes me.

We previously converted Oliver Hoyte from a LB to a FB. It could work, but I would rule it out. I just wish our TE/FB could stay healthy.

Good memory -- that's the guy. He did well early on, considering the switch.

And it worked out so well that you don't even remember his name. :)

Deon Anderson will be our starting FB and he should be.
We will be fine at TE. Witten, Marty B, Sicko, and the latest rumor is Gronkowski will handle it. Plus the FA market is loaded with guys who can play 3rd and 4th TE in the NFL. LOOOOAAAADDDEEDDDAAAA!

Try David Buehler at TE.... I am serious

He already is the emergency back up at all positions. Including Kicker in the event he has to Save the World the league will allow him to do all his kicking duties in advance and store it on tape to be played during a game.

If I'm LB Sharpe, I'm volunteering for a try at TE along with LB. I'm doing everything I can to make the team anywhere. I'm not going to make the team at LB only.

No.

You don't want to have a young player learn such a drastically different position on the other side of the ball. Especially since they should focus on learning the positions they are at now.

Go out and get a camp body until your guys are healthy. The Cowboys played this one right.

You're thinking of Hoyte.

Update on the TE position:
The addition was that of 23-year old undrafted rookie Dajleon Farr. A highly-touted recruit from North Shore High School in Houston, he caught 10 passes in two seasons with the Miami Hurricanes. Farr then transferred to the University of Memphis, were he caught 14 passes for 76 yards as a senior in 2009. Signed by San Diego after April's NFL draft, the 6-6, 260-pounder was released on Aug. 2.

nods, if I remember correctly his problem was he hit so hard that he would injury himself! :laugh2:

You usually make those conversions with thumper-type scrub LBs that can't play. All the guys we have can.

takes a while -- and it almost always is a guy who is going to make the team as a ST player

didn't we do this with another LB ... possibly around the time of the first Hard Knocks - I recall he looked good early but got hurt. I may well be wrong on this though

Yeah, some white guy named Scott Zimmerman, I think it was. I didn't even remember him until I was watching that 2002 team on Hulu a few months ago.

Of course that whole team was forgettable.:
