Playing like guys who have never won an NFL game as a starting QB.

wait....

the defense had 5 interceptions in practice?

for this team and their lack of actually getting ints thats kinda impressive.....seem like it takes them 3 seasons to get that many ints

The back up QB will be fine as long as all the other areas stay fine. I think Gilbert will do ok, if he had to step in for Dak for a few games, assuming that the OL is healthy. If the OL is back to form, it would be 2016 all over again.. hand to Zeke and 5 yard outs for first downs and 1-2 shots down field.

Been on a vacation the last couple of weeks in the boonies. Only popped up here and there to read a few post. How are the backup QBs playing since Dak has been down?
Horriffic start, but improved some….since there was nowhere to go but up.

Dak had three picks his next last day
The backups then easily topped that with 5 picks their first full day
:omg:

If we’re looking for any sort of silver a lining, at least the secondary is making plays

Neither do I, but despite some fans being oblivious to his seven years previously in the NFL - and giving him a bunch of credit for playing one mediocre game on a day when the defense (sort of) showed up - I know Garrett Gilbert is a bum. He shouldn't be the second QB for any NFL team.

GIlbert should Not have been just given the No.2 backup. Just a handed it out to him based off one regular season game, imo.
No competition, no one to challenge him, nor drive Gilbert.
And most of know Nooch provides zero competition and threating push against Gilbert.

I'm sure we will see plenty of Gilbert in the pre-season games. Personally I'm hoping he's a late bloomer and is finally seeing the light. He was leading the AAF is passing before that got shut down.
Kurt Warner was a late bloomer; he became a starter a couple of two months after turning 27 (during the 1999 preseason).
With his 30th birthday just over a month ago....Gilbert would be a very, very late bloomer.

I watched him play in the Texas High School playoffs and was rooting for him at UT. But I still have nightmares of him having to replace McCoy in the Championship game against Alabama. Can't believe he still made it to the NFL after that Clubber Lang-esque type of beating he took.

He's been nothing on 8 teams in 8 years. He's 30 years old. He is what he is. He's not getting better. The fact that he is our backup with DiNucci and Rush is football malfeasance on the part of Jerry Jones.

Take a look at the backups in the league. Jets have Mike White. Eagles have Flacco. Stealers have Haskins and Rudolph. Bills have Trubisky. Vikes have Mond. Seahawks have Geno Smith? Who’s backing up Matty Ice?

Since the front office is Jerry and his family, who exactly will hold them accountable? lol
We can’t hold him accountable ultimately with their job. But we can still scrutinize them publicly holding their feet to the fire making them squirm behind the mic sputtering out moronic comments which we can further critique. Lol

I watched "Hanging with the Boys", or whatever it's called, on the Cowboys app last night and they had Nate Newton on. When asked about the backup qbs in camp he shook his said and basically said we were dead if Dak went down and any of those guys had to start for even a few games.. The window between going to the playoffs and staying home is very narrow for us, and we can't afford to lose anything because of pitiful backup qb play.

I don't know what the answer to our backup qb is, but it's not on the roster now.

Just read a post at 'Blogging The Boys' - all three QBs will see action tonight.
Gilbert probably plays the entire first half, then Rush and DiNucci split time in the second half.

Let’s see how they do tonight. I think the team has enough pieces on offense for any decent QB to succeed.

The defense is going to be top 5. I can feel it.

Despite his horrid start in that championship game with 4 Int I believe he did make a impressive comeback in 2nd half bringing Whorns within 24-21 of Bama until another late turnover .

But it was his performance at SMU that made him a late 6th round pick destined for a backup role in the NFL at best .

I certainly hope you’re right. I won’t be expecting it but I’ll be very happy if they turn out OK.

Based on what I have seen, Gilbert has looked pretty decent the last several practices. The other two have been up & down. The people reporting live from camp have echoed that so the small sample we are getting seems to be representative of the truth.

If you check out the twitter threads you will see that he has thrown some very nice passes to beat good coverage. Has he been perfect? Of course not.

We will see how he performs in games but as of now I would say he is pretty representative of a #2 QB across the NFL.

Last year was an anomaly to have a starter level as your #2.

no telling who Nooch will have to work with, around by 4th quarter, now it reminds me that i'd like to see Cowboys camp roster for who's who's tonight.

To the other team LOL :)

I thought he looked decent last year.
We haven't played another team yet but we know how he looked against the Steelers last season, so he should look good and tonight. :D

well you keep saying that lol.
I say he isnt a bum, so we shall see who is right soon.

How many years does a guy have to bounce around the league, starting only one game and never winning one, to be a bum in your eyes?

That's Gilbert's pro football experience. There's a reason no one has hung on to him. He's a bum. Relying on him as QB2 would be a huge mistake.

The other 2 guys behind him should be graduate assistants in college.
