I'm just wondering how that schedule works because we played them last year?

Last year we played them because we ended in the same place in our division to end 2016. The NFC South was the division we played the team who finished the same place as us. This year we play them because it’s the year we play the entire NFC South.

The schedule all depends on which place you finish in the division.

There is a predetermined formula.

Thanks for answering it just seems kind of odd

Back to back is alright but I hate how we have to travel to Atlanta back to back years (why can't they split it ?)

We've played Seattle back to back but at least we split home field advantage (home 2017 away 2018)

That's not how it works. Y'all really need to just look at a future schedule and all yalls answers will be answered.

We split home field advantage when we play a team because our division plays theirs. This year we play the entire NFC South and play at Atlanta and Carolina, and have home games against New Orleans and Tampa Bay . In 2015, we played the entire NFC South and had home games against Atlanta and Carolina, and played New Orleans and Tampa Bay on the road. Home field was split in the 2 years.

Each year there will be 2 games against teams that finished in the same spot in their division as we did in our division (in the same conference). Out of those 2 games, 1 will be at home and the other will be on the road. It doesn't factor in which location the two teams previously played at.

Home /away is scheduled perfectly evenly between teams.

That's not to say that they can't play a team away 2 years in a row, in fact they can play the same (non NFCE) NFC team up to 3 years in a row away - but then if they play that team the next 3 years they'll all be at home.

That makes 100% sense. Thank You for the write up

Schedules are set up already. The only thing that changes is the same-place finishers.

6 games vs NFC East opponents

4 games vs rotating AFC divisions (so we play every four years)

4 games vs rotating NFC divisions (every 3 years)

Last 2 games are same-place finishers in the other two NFC divisions.

In 2019, we already know that we will play:
NY Giants
at NY Giants
Washington
at Washington
Philadelphia
at Philadelphia

Buffalo
Miami
at NY Jets
at New England

Green Bay
Minnesota
at Chicago
at Detroit

vs NFC West same place finisher (currently the Seahawks)
vs NFC South same place finisher (currently the Panthers)

We played the Packers 6 times between 2009 and 2016 (not counting the playoffs). 5 of those 6 were in Green Bay. To be fair though we played them 7 times during the regular season in the 90's and 5 of them were in Dallas.

At least we are not playing in Lambeau like every year...

Lol this.

Exactly why the Egals have the Rams, in L.A.
They think they lost players for the season now. Wait till the Rams get done with them.

Here's the scheduling formula.

Each team plays its division rivals twice (6 games, 3 home and 3 away).
Each team plays every team in another division in the same conference (4 games, 2 home and 2 away). This year, the NFCE plays the NFCS. Which division you play rotates through a 3-year cycle.
Each team plays every team in a division in the other conference (4 games. 2 home and 2 away). This year, the NFCE plays the AFCS. Which division you play rotates through a 4-year cycle.
That's 14 games, which are common for every team in a division. So, DAL, NYG, PHI and WAS all play the same 14 games (except, obviously, that DAL plays PHI while PHI plays DAL, etc.)

For the last 2 games (1 home, 1 away), each team plays one team in the OTHER divisions in the same conference. The team they play is the team that finished in the same spot in the division last year. So, DAL finished second in the NFCE last year. As a result, they play the team that finished second in the NFCN (DET) and the team that finished second in the NFCW (SEA).

Home and away is balanced and also determined by formula, based on where teams finished in their divisions (NOT on when or where they last played each other).

So it's entirely possible that we'll play ATL again next year, but only if we finish in the same spot in our respective divisions. There's a pretty good chance of that, actually. Both of us are quite likely to finish 2nd or 3rd in our division.
