With March 1 beginning to loom and several needs on the squad our first avenue to fill spots is going to be FA. Other than Glover we really dont have any top tier talent leaving and we are in a position to gain ground in talent through free agency.

We have plenty of cap room to maneuver but what I am wondering is how players around the league might feel about the prospect being a Dallas Cowboy. What I mean is that say all things are equal in terms of contract offers do we have that edge that makes a player choose us over another team.

I would think were in a pretty good spot for a few reasons.

1) The Jones Family. Say what you want about the guy, but it really does seem that players enjoy playing on his team. He genuinely cares about the players and is passionate about the game. He takes care of his players and everything that I have ever heard from some explayers has been very good.

It also helps that they are very good at the art of the deal.

2) Bill Parcells. Now he can be a double edged blade in that he can push away a certain type of player. Fortunately those players either dont want to give it their all or are of the Antonio Bryant mold. I can deal with that.

Now while not all of players comments about him are exactly glowing there are a multitude of accolades about his fairness and desire to win. Players know this.

3) Perception of us being a team on the rise. Now right wrong or indifferent this is the hype that we are getting. There are already articles putting us in the Superbowl next year. We started off strong this past season and faded due to some key injuries. I can see players seeing that and thinking that they can be the piece to prevent another fade.

Add into that the winning tradition with 5 Lombardi trophies and the Cowboys mystique can only help.

4) Dallas, Texas itself. No income tax. A city of devoted fans and a market that is big but not overbearing like a New York. Would you rather live in Dallas or Minneapolis? or Cincinatti?

I think were in a good spot in terms of being able to market ourselves to potential free agents. What do you guys think?

We may have been down the last 10 years or so but the Dallas Cowboys are still the premier team in football. Everything they do is first class and any player that played here and went to another team will tell you it just isn't the same there.

We will always be attractive to potential FAs.

I think Dallas is an attractive place all things being equal. The equalizer is the bottom line or $$$.

For the most part players will go where the money is. There are exceptions, but for the most part I would say it all about the money.

The other stuff comes more into play if there are two competing offers roughly in the same dollar range.

Dallas has always been attractive for prospective free agents simply because this is still one of the PREMIER franchises in all of professional sports.

Also how could a stud like Lecharles Bentley not want to come here and snap the ball to a legend like Drew Bledsoe and play for a championship?????

Oh i understand that. What I am trying to gauge is how good our chances of getting a player to take say $500k less to play for us or if we match the offer of a team which way are they going to go.

Th point I was trying to make was that we are in a better position to do that than at any time since 1996. Maybe with the exception of 2004 where we decided to stand pat in free agency after a playoff appearance.

Not much of a choice there. All I can say is that Dallas is one of the most unattractive cities that I've visited (no offence to any locals.) Haven't been to either Minnesota or Cincinatti.

Yeah, I am with you. I dont know what the cut off point is and I guess that is what you are asking.

All things being equal, I think we both agree that Dallas has a good chance at landing that player that they are in competition for.

Excellent question though. What kind of pay differential is a player willing to take to be able to play in Dallas?

Of course everything is situationally dependent, so I dont know if this could be answered or not.

Compared to what? Id rather be nowhere else than Austin but Dallas is nothing to sniff at. Ive been all over the northeast, midwest , south and california. Even been over the pond to visit London and Paris so its not as if Ive nothing to compare it to.

What do you consider an attractive city?

Kk three of those are actual NFL franchises. Of those Ill give you Miami. Boston is a pit and the people generally speaking are not very nice. Not as bad as Philly but still not nice.

Never been to San Fran so I cant say. I had a chance when I was in Nappa and didnt go.

At least you didnt say Athens.
