How bad does Keith Davis being out of the defense for a little while hurt?

0> This is a big impact to the secondary
0> This doesn't hurt the secondary too bad
0> This doesn't hurt the secondary at all, I already knew somebody else like Marcus Coleman/Pat Watkins/or Justin Briault was going to get the Free Safety position

Maybe/Maybe Not>we'll see was my answer basically because maybe he comes back tommorrow? maybe he doesn't. either or its a good thing we stocked up on capibable players to play his position.

KD is our best ST player.

I agree, this impacts the STs much more than the defense IMO. I didn't expect Davis to be the starting FS anyway as we have better prospects for that position and he is still a SS playing out of position at FS.

I can't vote because 'no impact' isn't one of the answers. Reading the articles this morning, it sounds like he will be good to go in Jacksonvile. In fact this won't hurt but help the Cowboys when camp begins because this will give some of the other guys a chance to show us something. I'm not saying I wanted him shot. Overall I don't see any impact on our D short term.

Where is the "Chances are he get's cut" option?

I don'y know if he will or not, but the last time this happened...why is there a "last time" when talking about getting shot?...he did.

I don't know the details, and he may be just an innocent victim as it sounds he is, but that kind of trouble usually finds the person looking for it.

I hope he recovers, they find the people responsible, and know he is in fact an innocent victim in all this and he becomes everything the Cowboys and us fans hoped he will become.

Not sure KD was our best ST since we signed guys like Boiman and drafted players like Watkins, etc. But anyway, if he still has a bullet in his thigh which must be surgically removed as soon as they confident head injury okay, he will certainly miss some of the TC. Wouldn't affect his STs play but might slow down his effort to remain FS starter. He certainly will be ready to go before preseason games end.

As for some suspicion leveled on his because he was out at 5:00 AM in the morning (it's after midnight), I don't know what world some of you live in. A few weeks ago I flew out of nearby airport at 6:50AM and, since I had to be at the airport NLT 5:00AM, my driver/friend picked me up at 4:00AM. Also several months ago, I drove with a friend on a 10 hour trip to visit her family & we left my house at 5:00AM to get ahead of rush hour traffic at several major arteries on nearby interstate. Geez, sometimes I even get up and take the garbage out at 5:00AM so I don't miss erratic garbag pickups. 5:00AM in the morning isn't after midnight; in some places its the start of the morning rush hour.

Just because some of you appear to believe God ordained that you should be in home and in your bed between 11:00PM & 7:00AM and anybody out between those hours is a sinner/doing something majorly wrong, the rest of the world actually functions during that time. All I'm saying is he certainly should get the benefit of the doubt; he was on the interstate for goodness sake. The same thing could happen to any of us for any reason.

Sago, you make good points here. We have to reserve judgment on this until we get some more facts and let the investigation proceed. However, I will note in all of your morning adventures, we're you shot at? Did you see anyone get shot? There is definitely some smoke here that deserves investigation to see if there is an underlying 'fire.' KD is definitely a victim here. There question that remains is why.

I would hate for this to happen but I think BILL has no choice but to let him go!!! the teams "No Comment" is an indication something may go wrong for KD... the team could at least wish him well!!!

In the short term the loss may hurt but I think Davis was only renting the spot, I expect Watkins to be the starter before seasons end. I'm glad Davis is alright but as for his play I have not been impressed at all with the job he has done at safety.

I don't think this will hurt us. For starters, sounds like he's alright and won't miss one bit of training camp.

Secondly, they have Davis, Beriault, Pile, Watkins, Reeves and Marcus Coleman all competing for the FS spot. Pile and Davis are about the same player at FS last season. Beriault may be better if his knee can hold up. Reeves is a good CB who could make an easy transition to FS. Coleman was a good safety a couple of years ago. And Watkins has the most upside at the position. Obviously, I'd like to have a surefire, good starting FS on the roster. But, I think they are providing enough guys that most likely it will work out.

Plus, I expect/hope for much better play this year from the front 7. More pressure up front means less pressure on the secondary. Even if Davis keeps his job and basically does what he did last year, I don't think it will kill us.

Definitely impacts specials but very little otherwise. Didn't have a starting quality FS before he was shot and still don't.

Beriault looked very good on special teams last pre-season with some big hits, I think he will be able to step in and fill Davis role on special teams

Probably not, but someone else may be able to. Another starter or a free agent yet to be signed.

first, i don't see Parcells releasing KD unless we could pick up another veteran...i don't see many of those around the league. we don't know how coleman is going to work (plus he's been working/studying for corner moreso than FS). Pile couldn't beat him out last year, so why would he beat him out this year? while i'm intrigued by Watkins, he's no better than a wild card at this time.

so, i think its a bit credulous to think we can afford to lose KD at this time and feel no consequence. in my mind he would be a loss on defense and ST.
while he wasnt the strongest in coverage last year, he was improving. if he has continued to do so, he would have been the strong favorite to win the starting FS job.

that being said, i would love to see Watkins step up by mid-season and give us the ball hawking FS we've been looking for and put KD in his place...special teams.

he may, actually. and he wont be alone. we've added several guys to the roster in the past year that should make ST a much stronger unit.

I think Davis was cut the first time around because he was more useful to Parcells as an example than as a football player.

This time he's the incumbent starting FS and ST ace. While I'm sure Bill will ride him mercilessly for this I think he'll get some slack and won't be outright cut, unless more details surface that Davis was definately involved in something more than his story indicates.
