How bad would the melt down have been?

OK we took Smith with the 24th pick.

Guess what ?

The Cowboys had him rated higher than both Kenyon Green and Zion Johnson.

How Epic would the rueing have been if all 3 were available and we still took Smith?

I think we would have crashed the Cowboy's Zone server !!!
I think they were after the highly rated guards but they cane off the board and McClay had done his due diligence on Smith

We will see, but the team knows how to pick up 1st round O linemen. The last 3 were arguably HOFers. The traits that Smith has in the bag aren't teachable. The polishing he needs very much is. There are others around the league that though he was one of the better O linemen. After watching him he reminds me a little of Eric Williams. What's important to remember is that he was the best player available on our board.
We'll see, I'm optimistic.
He plays with a EW attitude for sure
He’s a big, string kid who will get even stronger in the NFL and he’s 21 years old
Just in potential he’s a good pick
My question on him is more about can he start day one and I’m not sold on him playing LT
But at guard he could be the road grader that gets the run game back on track
It’s gonna come down to how quick he can be ready because we need him game one

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have a lot of faith in Philbin....

I believe them. I just don't understand how came to that conclusion given the competition he played against and the penalty issue. This is another one of those "we like how he performed in shorts" picks.

not sure it matters around here. This board loves to bash anything we do.

have injured players....they suck and need to be replaced.

don't sign injured players, we suck and never try.

resign our players....we overpaid

don't resign our players....they'll be better where they go.

this board is only happy when it isn't happy.....

You forgot to add:

if they neglect to do something that drives the board crazy....start a thread imagining how crazy we WOULD have reacted if they had

Every player has weaknesses
But green and Zion will be day one starters and be good players
Smith may end up the best of the 3 in time but he hasn’t played guard since HS and he’s less polished than with green or Zion for sure
We didn’t have the option of the 3 and in the end we may have the best of the 3 but it’s a much riskier pick than the others would have been and you had a really good DE prospect sitting there, so I get the criticism
I didn’t like the pick over a DE even though guard is a bigger need
But he does have the physical traits to be a road grader in the run game
I just don’t know that he’s a true day one starter
Jerry's boom or bust M.O. coming out ???

I hear you and you are right.
I wonder how Jerry's mishandling of his role as GM has contributed to the funk we have here on this board?
He certainly gives us plenty of ammo to be critical of in his role as GM.

I am warming to this pick.
I just hope Dak does not get killed while Smith is going through his growing pains.

Both Green & Johnson have weaknesses as well. It's not like they are ringers with no risk or question marks.
No, no, no.

There were 31 future HOFers drafted last night. The Cowboys were the ONLY team not to draft one.

And no, don't tell me that this was a weak draft. I mean 31 FUTURE HALL OF FAMERS WERE DRAFTED LAST KNIGHT ALONE. The Cowboys BLEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly
This guy has the physical tools but has really poor technique
If he gets that down he’s gonna be a road grader
If not he will continue to get tons of penalties
You nailed it
Thanks for the kind words Conner.
Hope this kids pans out.

The most entertaining thing about this board are the fan meltdowns. You can almost feel their agony reverberating over the Internet. I’ve witnessed more than a few nervous breakdowns from some whose elevators are stuck between floors. lol

The meltdown would have been worse if we'd traded up to 14 to get Tyler Smith. Rumors say Dallas was looking to trade up to 14. And the FO themselves say they had Smith rated 16th on their board. Talk about dodging bullets, phew.

I don't think the trade up to 14 would have been for Smith, who was supposedly 16th on Dallas' board. There were receivers there they probably had rated higher.
