Stoops fires back at Franchione...sort of
Apparently, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops doesn't have much of a sense of humor.
A few days after A&M coach Dennis Franchione made a harmless joke about the Sooner's NCAA troubles when former quarterback Rhett Bomar and another player were caught working an illegal job last year.
While praising the Sooners as perhaps the most talented team in the Big 12 this season, Franchione joked during Wednesday's Touchdown Club of Houston luncheon that the Sooners only concern this year what jobs they are going to work.
Stoops was asked to respond to the comment during media day in Norman, Okla. on Friday. Stoops, according to a story in the Tulsa World, declined then he decided to respond in a way where he allegedly wasn't talking about any one coach in the league.
"There are a lot of people who have a lot to say when they don't have a Big 12 championship to talk about,"
Generally speaking, that would fit about 10 coaches in the Big 12 right now. But Fran is the only one who has been talking recently. You do the math.
Stoops also took an indirect swipe at Franchione's insistence the Aggies were only a few plays away from winning the Big 12 South Division title last season.
"There are some guys talking about, 'If this happened in this game, and this happened in that game,' in like three or four games, they'd be Big 12 champions," said Stoops, who has five Big 12 titles and is favored to win the league again this season despite being unsettled at quarterback. "Who had more happen to them last season than us?"
