How can I get a stray cat to stop hanging out in my yard?

Off topic, but there's a feral/stray/whatever that seems to love to hang out in my yard. I don't really want to have to trap this thing, but I just want it to go away. Any suggestions?

Had a stray/neighbors cat always roam our yard. Which annoyed us as we didn't want our house cats spraying everywhere jic.
So, one day I let our Australian shepherd out in the yard. Cat booked it over the fence and has never ventured back. Don't think the dog would of killed it, but the herding instinct kicks in.

Posed this very question to a Home Depot guy but we had several feral cats hanging around and they were killing the birds. He suggested fox urine as a deterrent and I know people spray that in their attics to keep varmints out so I decided to give that a shot. How bad could that be?

There isn't a word to describe the smell of fox urine, I could have strapped a skunk butt on my face for protection. I sprayed it on the outside of the fence and was on the backside when it hit me and I began puking and my wife came back to ask me something, it hit her and she yelled "Oh my God, whaaaaaaaaaaa" and she puked. So I am thinking, this is what it does? Makes one puke? I am going to have this smell plus cat puke all over the back yard? I also discovered I just might have gone overboard on the spraying. Little is good? A lotta more much mo bettah. Not so with fox urine.

My wife told me if I sprayed that again, I was going to have a feral wife on my hands. So, Hoofy, I do not suggest fox urine for anything except as maybe a replacement for those that can't stick their finger down their throat when they need to.

There was a cat that lived by my old house. Damn thing would walk on my car after washing it. One day washed the car and pulled it in the garage. Went in the house to get a drink and sure enough that damn cat was on the roof of my car. My boxer happen to see the cat and started running down the stairs. The cat struggled to get tracking on the freshly waxed roof :) I hit the garage door opener. Cat spinning. Dog running. Door is about 3/4 way closed and the cat starts to move. Dog near the front bumper. Cat jumps from the trunk and just squeezes under the door as it closes. My dog slides into the door. Ah almost. Never saw the cat at my house after that day.

That's an instant classic, Coach! I had to wipe tears out of my eyes twice to finish reading it. You and I think the same way, if a little is good then how much better can a whole lot be?

You're going to need a lot of fox urine on this. Have a 22 on stand by just in case.
