How could we get 2 number 1 pics.

Ideas people:
We need an impact tackle and an impact OLB opposite Ware. We can get them both if we had 2 number 1's obviously. So i'm trying to think of ways we can pick up another one with out going nuts.
The 2 Super Bowl teams are 1st and 3rd at generating sacks (Sea-1st(50)PItt-3rd(47)Boys-17th(37).... While those teams are also good at not allowing their QB to be sacked (Sea-27th(27sacks given up/Pitt - 16th (32 sacks given up/ and Cowboys - 4th (a whopping 50 sacks given up)

So we give up 50 sacks and only get 37 sacks.. Not Super Bowl numbers.
So we need to fix the Oline and the Dline(another OLB who can get after the QB)

In the bottom 6 of the league you have Denver/Cincinatti & the Chiefs with the fewest sacks generated.

I think BP and Company should give them a call about a possible trade. 2 of these teams are a lineman away from possibly challenging for the Super Bowl. Denver and Cincinatti.

Both of those teams were in the bottom 3 at protecting their QB so they have no offensive line issues, they just can't generate sacks.

Jerry being the great salesman he is, could possibly convince them that if they were to take a savy vet who's guaranteed to give you atleast 8 sacks and put pressure on your QB, and that in term would put them in next years Super Bowl.

but we need your late 1 (Broncos since they have 2 #1's) and we'll throw in Glover who is very good at generating pressure up the middle in a 4-3. We'll even give them a next years 2 to sweeten the deal. Giving us 2 number 1's..
Other Ideas please...

Denver has two 1st round picks. #22 & #29 I think. If there is somebody they want badly @ #18 that is our best chance.

We no longer have the trade magnet Dexter Coakley, so we're screwed.

You would really have to give up something valuable. We dont have anything that would warrant a 1st rd pick, certainly we couldn't afford to give it away if we did have it. Newman, a package of Roy and Ellis/glover maybe. Ellis/glover and JJ. we dont have a lot of 1st round worthy guys. to package em would hurt the colub too much and make the club worse in the overall progress. Ware would qualify, but I am thinking hes not going anywhere for any price.

edit: How bout Parcells and Saprano for a first? would any one even consider that. I would do it in a heart beat I think right about now.

I think it will be hard even for a salesman like Jerry to acquire another first round pick without us giving up our own 1st round. Those kinds of trades usually happen on draft day, cause there is a player on the board that a team below us just have to have. Even then its is more likely to be a swap of pics, or they give up next years 1st rounder to us.

I like Glover a lot, but he is on the wrong side of 30 an and don't really know if he is a difference maker in the grand scheme of things. I think the more likely scenario is we trade down to acquire more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

This is a very deep draft for LB and Oline. I'd be more inclined to trade down and get more picks then sacrifice picks to move up, depending how the board is falling.

Impact players are important, but as we have seen depth matters too.

We might not have to have 2 #1's. A trade down could accomplish it but we'd need to get a little lucky. As for getting another #1 I can't see it unless a team like Denver wanted Ellis plus our 2nd for #29. But with Denver's cap problems I doubt they could afford to do this but who knows.

Denver already has 2 of our ex-DL's, why would they want 1 or 2 more :laugh2:
We would have to throw in next years #1. But if that impact player is there and WILL make a difference. Since JJ said they are going to "go for it", then maybe go ahead and pull the trigger. But they also need to pick up another 2nd, maybe a 3rd, to make up losing that #1.
I say do it, IF they really think it's SB or bust next year.

My thoughts exactly.

Unless there is a clear-cut, no questions asked BPA (like AJ Hawk or Jimmy Williams) then trading down for another 3rd might be a good option. We will still probably get a top LB or OT at a lower 1st. Of course other teams realize this too. Then we can then trade down again in the 2nd or 3rd to try and get back a 4th rounder.

I realize that you need a partner for this but, it seems like there are teams looking to move up every year. The question is to Bill and Jerry want to move down?

We can always do what the Commanders did last year. They got Denver's 1st last year and took Jason Campbell and this year Denver has two #1 picks because of that. I dont know what else Washington gave up to get that extra pick last year though. Anyone else remember?

Having said all that, I am not in favor of giving up #1 picks for a draft that is more than a year away. Too much can happen in a year.

I looked it up myself and this is what it cost Washington get gain an extra first round pick.

The Commanders have completed a trade with the Denver Broncos that brings them the 25th overall pick in this weekend's NFL draft. The trade gives the team two picks in the first round (No. 9 and No. 25) on Saturday.

In return for Denver's 25th pick, the Commanders have given the Broncos' this year's third-round pick (76th overall) and the Commanders first- and fourth-round selections in the 2006 draft.

I think if we can give a good player and a 2nd, we could possibly move into the bottom of the draft.. Maybe we could just package Ellis and next years 3 to get an early 2nd...
