I've been an advocate for Dallas going out and getting a strong safety. However, an article I just read indicated based on the draft and what coaches have said that Dallas might use press man coverage with its corners with two rangy safeties playing over the top. if this is the case, then who we currently have at safety makes sense. Dix, Woods and Wilson are all better on the back end than run support.

Of course, like all teams, we'll mix coverages up at times, but if this is our base coverage, I'm happy with the safeties we have.

Well if we play the two deep zone or Tampa Two then we need a speedy linebacker to pull that off. So I guess that ends all of the talk about J.Smith being moved from the middle.

I always wanted Dallas to put him in situations that allowed him to show his speed. But he needed some space-eaters in front of him for that to happen. Because him taking on offensive lineman just isn't his strong suit.

I think its going to be a couple year proccess in the secondary. Particularly at CB. Press man is the best kind of coverage for a multiple front scheme. Ultimately you want Diggs and Robinson as two of your top 3

S you hit the nail on head. You want more range at S with that kind of coverage.

They will just have to wait and address S next year. How many years have we been saying this?

I don't care what coverage they do, we still need better playmakers. Maybe they will surprise though.

Rebuilding the Defense will take time, cannot be accomplished in just 1 draft class. Their focus this year was at the CB position. Honestly, outside of the OL, just cannot see many more high picks going towards the offense.

With Dix on a one-year deal and Woods set to become a free agent, there's no doubt we'll need to address the safety spot. My concern this year is that every safety we have is essentially a free safety. Dix has played strong safety but was not very good at it. He's much more comfortable and capable at free safety. Woods has never been a strong safety and isn't build for it. Wilson might could grow into the position, but he's also more of a free safety. Even deeper down the roster Darian Thompson is a free safety type.

None of these guys are a Jamal Adams-type who can play the short zone and come up and destroy the run. They are rangy players who do not play the run very well. However, if the idea is to essentially use more Cover 2 principles then they make perfect sense, as does the possibility of moving a corner to safety. So while I do want us to seriously address safety, I feel a lot better about what we've got if we're playing this kind of scheme.
