How did Looney do (vs Escobar)

I saw Looney in the game at least a few times playing at essentially the blocking TE position instead of Escobar.

Anybody have a sense of how he did and whether we can expect more Looney and less Escobar going forward?

Looney is good in the run game, but on the play in which he was beat for a sack, he was essentially playing tackle. As a layman, it looked like his feet weren't quick enough and he wasn't hand fighting with the end. I don't think he's suited to play that position.

I don't like it b/c you're basically telling the defense a run play is coming. If we have to hide Escobar like this, then you need to just get rid of him. I don't understand why the team is trying to shortcut this position.

Terrible.

On the one play, it's super important for Looney to stonewall his guy because he's not going to go out for a pass and that only leaves the QB with 4 eligible receivers instead of 5.

The basic concept of the play is to show run and hit on a big play, but if not, the pass protection needs to be good enough to give extra time to find somebody to get open. We didn't do that and it failed badly.

Yea, he's not good as a TE.

Either re-sign Traylor or go with Rico.

True.

He didn't even get a hand on the End until he was going past him on that sack play.

Last night clearly pointed out that Looney is not meant to play in space.

It's ridiculous that we have resorted to having play an extra OL on first downs. Talk about tipping our hand that a run is coming

No doubt, but it's certainly no worse than subbing Dunbar in for Elliott on third down. We might as well just send a note to the opposing sideline telling them a pass is coming.

He sucked. I'm an Escobar homer so I'm probably not being totally fair but Looney was so bad. Escobar is a pass catching Tight End and we all know he's average at best when it comes to blocking. But Looney is an offensive lineman. He should at least be average at it. There is no point in playing him if he's going to be that bad. At least Escobar can bring the possibility of catching a pass. It was pathetic

I rather put Rico Gathers at TE then try to use two players that aint doing nothing to help the team.

Terrible. He gave up a sack after being thrown to the side like a ragdoll. It's a shame this team is hamstrung at tight end with the injuries we've have. Escobar is a major liability. Drafting a tight end in the second round who can't block when we already have Witten is a move only Jones would make.

He was OK. If Collins gets back, I'd use him in this situation.

If we do that it would mean that we'd have to either have three backup OL active. That would take an ST player out of the game. Only way this works is if La'el is playing the swing tackle. I think he's be fine as the backup there but he just hasn't seen any snaps outside.
