How Did Memphis Get So Good?

Are they even a fully-funded program? As a mid-major the fact they are undefeated and number 1 in the country is amazing. How did they do it? Had anybody even heard of Memphis before a few years ago?

Their early season run was impressive, but they play next to nobody in their conference. They're not going to be nearly as battle tested as DUKE, UNC, Kansas, UCLA, Indiana, etc.

I could see an early upset for this #1 seed.

I guess Hogs missed the last two years when we made it to the Elite 8.

I don't expect us to be undefeated going in to the NCAA tourney. I think we lose to Tennessee next weekend but I think that would actually be good for us.

CUSA is pretty weak overall but not all the teams are bad. They just have to play us.

We tried to get in to the Big East a couple of years ago but our football team is holding us back. To put it mildly we suck. :laugh2:

The coach attracts quality players, who, before he came, would go to Knoxville or out of state. I like Memphis' chances this year due to more experience. The Tigers will play the Vols soon, so the team should get a nice test. I would love for Memphis to win it all, but the team needs to add some games against more top 25 teams. Go, Tigers, Go!

Also the population of this so called backwoods city is right at 1 million.


To answer your question yes it's a fully funded school and this isn't our first taste of success. We have been to two Final 4's, one championship game, and the elite 8 the last two years.
