sunday? he got beat by SPEARS his first sack of the season:laugh2:

but how did he look the rest of the game?

............... he looked like he could have started for us.

Geez. So quick to point the finger. He's a rookie who has been hurt most of the season. Do you really expect him to be flawless? Claiborne makes mistakes as well.

And gotten bashed for A) being hurt/not playing through injuries and B) any mistake he made.

Other than a sack surrendered to Spears on a stunt, he was decent in pass protection, mainly providing help to Pouncey. However, he was serving up some major weaksauce in run blocking. He got next to no push on his inline blocks, and both Albright and Conner were easily stacking and shedding him at the point of attack on the second level. Pretty much the same player I saw at Stanford. He needs to get into a weight room and get some lead in his anchor, which is why the Bengals passed on him for the stronger inline mauler and better all around player in Zeitler (who has been very good as a rookie).

Not sure I understand. DeCastro was picked at #24 and Zeitler was picked at #27. I guess you're saying that they wouldn't have traded out of #21 if they wanted DeCastro.

Also, I guess you saying that DeCastro has a weak lower body, because he outweighed Zeitler by 2 lbs and had 2 more bench press reps.

I would still take Claiborne over Decastro(with or without a trade down) and that is all that matters.

You mean in hindsight you would?

Heck, in hindsight I'd take Decastro in the 1st and Casey Heyward in the 2nd....

but that's too easy.

I believe that was his first professional start. He has been out with an injury that he suffered in the preseason.

My mother could start for us, and she's 63.

I'm sure your mom has a heck of a kick slide, but no she couldn't. :laugh2:

I don't believe you have any idea what I said.

Bengals OL coach Paul Alexander said they had Zeitler almost the same, but a littler higher, than DeCastro, so they passed on DeCastro, traded down a few spots and picked up Zeitler.

And I also don't put any real credence into bench press in regards to functional football strength. I really don't know why they continue to use it at the Combine rather than any Olympic lift, other than the football/scouting community is a stickler for maintaining status quo and is resistant to change. Some claim counting bench press reps can at least measures muscle endurance and stamina, but as far as that goes I'd rather see how many times a player can swing a 50 lbs. kettle bell and judge muscle stamina and endurance with the trunk and lower body where the game of football is played.

that is exactly what I saw he helped pouncy in pass protection so hard to judge that and was weak run blocking...

Why don't you come back and ask the question in three years time!

So I gather that the message here is that anyone who wanted to Draft OL in the first round was wrong, and our OL is fine?

Good to know.
