How did we get so bad from 1 season to the next?

Or......they just didn't want to hitch up to this loser again. But I think you can point to losing Quinn as the biggest reason....Zimmer can't scheme....nor matchup.
It’s only so much a coach can do if your dline is getting blown off the LOS and players missing 1v1 tackles often. We just don’t have the personnel to compete at the moment.

We did nothing to improve this offseason. We shed our best RB and a reliable WR in Gallup.
Also we kept a lame duck HC and showered an almost a average QB with 60 mil a year.
Lets be clear Gallup was trash last year and is actually retired after signing with the Raiders last offseason. Tolbert is about to eclipse the stats that Gallup had last season.

1. Injuries. Yes, every team has injuries but to lose basically your entire pass rushing cast, both starters and backups, plus a Pro Bowl starting cornerback is extremely damaging to your team.
2. Player losses. Lose your starting LT and C, plus two valuable backups in Armstrong and Fowler, plus your main running back in Pollard is again damaging to your team.
3. Failing to sign Henry or all but one good player (Kendricks) to address deficiencies in offense and defense
4. Hiring an old, tired DC that most every OC in the league knows what he will do with the defense to replace Quinn instead of a young, innovative coach.

The front office showed zero commitment to the team and its staff for 2024. Anyone from the outside that asked for a contract longer than a year was told no and ended up going to another team. This team will functionally cease to exist as it is starting the 2025 season. I don't see why we're surprised that the players are undisciplined and have low morale. This is a lame duck team with a lame duck season, why commit to something that's about to blow up?

Lost Tyron Smith, Tyler B, Pollard, Martin is no longer the same player, Armstrong, Hankins, Fowler. That is six starters with no suitable replacements.

We look like one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Question how do we look so bad after coming off of 3 twelve win seasons?

On offense we mainly have the same guys minus LT Tyron Smith and Center Tyler Biadasz.

And on defense I know we are missing our best players for most of the season (to be honest when we had the starters we haven't looked good on defense except when we played the Browns) but man this defense is the worst Cowboys defense I've seen in a while. Was Dan Quinn play calling and scheme really making this defense seem wayyyy better than what they truly are? I guess we are really missing Sam Williams, Dorrance Armstrong, and Dante Fowler Jr. this season. BTW Dante Fowler Jr. plays starting strong side backer for the Commanders.
We weren't that good last year. Almost every single good team beat us in the regular season. We beat up a bunch of sub 500 teams so our record was inflated. GB proved that.

That's said we weren't this bad. No free agents, lame duck coaching, a QB playing awful, and so many injuries are too much for this franchise to overcome.

Well let's see at the end of our 12 win season last year where did we improve nowhere.
The coaching is still horrible and arguably got worse
Our offensive line got worse our running game was stale and got even worse.

Dan Quinn took some players to Washington with him Armstrong Fowler the center which wasn't a tremendous loss.
And then if our defense wasn't bad enough we lost the rest of the good players to injury.

So at about the halfway point we are up in smoke after watching the offseason unfold this was not at all unexpected.

At this point I'm just hoping for a win on Thanksgiving so it's not to taint that holiday

Minus the OLine getting worse, both by subtraction and the fact that Martin has gotten older in a hurry, and the running game getting worse, both due to worse personnel and an inferior OLine. On defense the team is missing its best players and because the offense is weaker they can no longer get a lead and force the other team to pass it. Forcing the other team to abandon the run was basically the only reason the defense last year looked good and it is why power run teams dominated the Cowboys. Basically you can trace the defensive problems back to Mazi Smith being a bust.
KMoore left.

wheels came off in the Bills game last season.

The cowboys strength last year was to get a lead early. The cowboys philosophy this year is make it as hard as possible to move the ball.

Losing 8-10 players and not properly replacing any of them. There's also the reality of every other team getting better while we got much worse. We have a built in competitive disadvantage. We have, by FAR, the worst GM in football. That's how you fall so far, so fast.

well we replaced Smith with Guyton, and got Beebe instead of Biadasz and Steele still sucks. we went from Pollard to Dowdle and Zeke. and we lost Hankins and replaced him with....hmmm, not sure whom, and our 3rd and 4th WRs are UDFAs, and we had two bad drafts in a row, I mean where is Schoon? and everyone got a year older. the coaches quit...they are going through the motions. everyone one of them is in the last year of their contracts and haven't got a vote of confidence from Jerry, so they know they are fired after the season and are probably already looking for their next Job.

this team is heck of a lot worse than last year's team...much less talented.

Why don’t people understand this? They sit there and put Dan Quinn on a pedestal and act like Zimmer is trash. Yet they’ve both had the same issue against running teams. Yet, the latter has significantly less resources.
