How did we get so bad from 1 season to the next?

Injuries and poor personnel strategy..

It's as if the injuries were strategically placed to destroy the Cowboys areas of strength. It actually began last season.

Anyone can see that Trevon Diggs is not the same. It made Bland's injury even more devastating. that is two 1st team All Pros that are still recovering. Bland came back too soon, that is also obvious. Even their rookie backup Caelon Carson was hobbled for a great deal of the 1st half of the season.

This destroyed a very strong CB squad but that was nothing compared to the DE's. All four DE's in a potentially great rotation? All picked off by injury. Probably the strongest unit for the Cowboys, now the weakest on defense.

Injuries only destroyed those units that the Cowboys didn't destroy themselves. Not addressing the need for RB's was pure madness. However, if you are going to be one-dimensional, at least give them a fighting chance with protection and weapons.

A veteran WR and O-lineman was an absolute need in free agency but the Cowboys did nothing and so they are doing nothing now.

You had to know it was only a matter of time before Dak went down. Everybody knows he is going to pass the ball two out of every three plays so why bother with run defense. Dak has been on the run for the whole season.

Dak really has only one legitimate and consistent target. Of course, defenses are going to get physical with CeeDee.

It's almost as if Jerry had some really deep resentments on their two contracts and is now forcing them to win games alone.
Now this was a REAL football response. The ability to have REAL football conversations on this forum is lost because the majority of people are too MAD about the guys making big money to properly assess the flaws in this ENTIRE team.

And the scary part is.....I think Jerry and Stephen think EXACTLY like a lot of these fans. Jerry and Stephen are not the ONLY front office that have to pay ALL PRO talent when their contracts are up. This is "par for the course business" in today's NFL. You know what else is par for the course? How much money NFL teams make in today's NFL. So both the owners AND the players are making more money than ever before. Not sure WHY fans can't put the BUSINESS of the NFL in its proper bucket and have football conversations outside of that. Actually, I know why. Jerry and Stephen DELIBERATLY are dangling Dak and CeeDee in front of this fanbase and way too many of us are taking the bait hook line and sinker. This disgusting behavior will probably be used to remind fans what a disaster it was to pay Dak and CeeDee and use that that when it's time to pay ALL PRO talent (Parsons, Tyler Smith etc..)

Here is another observation, that has always been true when Jerry pays someone their market value. Guess who is NOT playing hurt for the Cowboys right now? All of the guys who are waiting to get paid or don't make "big" money. Guess who played hurt yesterday? Martin, Diggs, CeeDee and Dak. When Jerry pays you, you are not ALLOWED to be injured. The sight of Zeke on one leg a couple of years ago when it was OBVIOUS to everybody that he should not be out there, will never be lost on me. Jerry even said on his radio show at the time that "Zeke was fine and we EXPECT him to carry his normal heavy workload" Pollard was clearly ready to spell Zeke, but that is not how Jerry operates. Heck just look at what they said about the money they were paying CeeDee....they "expect him to be targeted 15 - 18 times" for that amount of money.

Too many of you all do not listen to the stuff that comes out the mouth of Jerry and Stephen. How can you craft a gameplan to WIN football games when going INTO the game the owner has made it clear how many times a WR should be targeted? How can you craft a gameplan to WIN a football game when the owner has mandated that your hobbled RB get a certain workload, even though he was incapable of handling it?

NOTHING about the environment in Dallas is conducive to winning.....which has EXACTLY not happened in almost 30 years. And I am not just talking about a Super Bowl. Forget 12 - 5. How we play against good teams is who we are. And you should evaluate the roster based on how it performs in THOSE games. But that does not happen with this front office. It is beyond frustrating!!!!!!!!!

I hated losing Biadasz......why he got a bad rap here was beyond me. Now he's starting in Washington....and they are 7-2. Weird
They have 3 of our former players playing very good football for them. I expect them to stomp us Thanksgiving Day. Their Rookie QB is outplaying Dak in a big way. Course he has a better O line then we do. Having better talent normally pays off.

Besides the fact that every player stinks , all the injuries this year have contributed . Furthermore , under Jones and McCarthy , players are allowed to regress after big money signings with no consequences .

We look like one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Question how do we look so bad after coming off of 3 twelve win seasons?

On offense we mainly have the same guys minus LT Tyron Smith and Center Tyler Biadasz.

And on defense I know we are missing our best players for most of the season (to be honest when we had the starters we haven't looked good on defense except when we played the Browns) but man this defense is the worst Cowboys defense I've seen in a while. Was Dan Quinn play calling and scheme really making this defense seem wayyyy better than what they truly are? I guess we are really missing Sam Williams, Dorrance Armstrong, and Dante Fowler Jr. this season. BTW Dante Fowler Jr. plays starting strong side backer for the Commanders.
I didn't read all 6 pages but this post blew me away so much I just had to reply.

The Cowboys are out Cooks and Pollard also on offense. They basically are missing 4 of 11 offensive players from last year and the players that replaced them are crap. Guyton is a walking penalty.

On defense they were struggling against the run last year pretty badly at times. They lost Armstrong, Williams, Hankins, Fowler and now Tank and Parsons. They are also missing Gilmore and Bland. van der Esch retired. Hell even the replacement with Kneeland is out. Realistically most of the defense is gone.

It was really obvious this was going to be a down year coming into this season. The injury bug made it exponentially worse.

Losing key players and relying on hope that the guys in house can step up immediately and fill big roles. Completely sitting out free agency and not adding proven (not superstars but proven ) veterans, not addressing the run game at all via the draft or free agency, the other teams who were on the cusp last year- added. We sat with our hands in the air.

That the is the main culprit, then add in the injuries we have.

The only way this team becomes competitive is if the NFL goes on strike, SCAB players replace NFL players, and the Cowboy's players cross the picket line.

The bigger question is how have we been so bad the last 30 years. One man stands to blame…Jerry Jones.

The truth is that we were not that good last year either. We beat a LOT of cream puffs and stayed mostly healthy. You saw what this team truly was losing at home in a blowout playoff loss to an 9-8 team. Jerry saw it too. He just didn't want to believe it.

But this offseason saw us lose our best RB, best OT , 2 solid DE rotation players, and we replaced none of them with equivalent talent. We improved no where. Mix in a few injuries and of course the team had no chance this year. I said 9-8 back in May after the debacle off-season. After injuries. I've revised that down to 5-12. This team not only lacks talent but leadership. There is no emotion or excitement on the bench during games. These guys are just collecting paychecks.

Look at the GB, BUF, and SF games last year. They look just like this season. We all saw it roaring down the tracks at us.

How? Because in this league staying status quo has ramifications. If your not adding talent ,just losing talent, your doomed.
