I remember a long time ago going onto a Colts message board and a large number of the fans on that forum were killing Manning. Calling him a choke artist and that they would never win a Superbowl as long as he was the QB of the team. That their only hope was to trade him while they could.
You also had the other faction saying he was a great QB that just needed some players around him and he would do better.

There’s a cackle of “we choke” “we fade” “we have no heart” fans on most team forum.

The reality is only 1 out of 32 teams win each season. Try those odds when going on a job interview. Suppose you are in the top 10. Odds are still 10 to 1 against you!

Fans work up narratives in their own mind. Sometimes they are true. Very often not.
I wonder how many teams have less than 2 playoff wins in 20 years?

Criticism is warranted! Jerry did a lot of stupid crap.

Did we choke our way to that...or did we put too many mediocre teams—from a talent standpoint—onto the field?

I’ve been to a few other message boards over the years (Philthy, Skins, Giants, Packers, Bears and Seattle). The one thing that stands out the most to me is the whining and crying about every call that doesn’t go our way and refusing to recognize the flags/penalties that do go our way. I’ve never seen more conspiracy theories or moaning about getting more negative publicity (when we also get more positive publicity) than any other mediocre NFL team. There is also a sense of entitlement here but that seems to have faded over the past 20+ years, rightfully so, and should have faded over 15 years ago.

On the other side, this is by far the most active site. I think that’s a combination of the site itself (kudos to the mods, IT guys, and everyone responsible for helping to it keep running and user friendly) along with our enormous fan base. Also, all the other boards do complain but it’s mostly about their coaching and players not every flag, referee, other owners, etc.

Before anyone chimes in, yeah, I get the whole Zeke thing, but what I’m referring to started waaaaaaaaay before that.

So, due to the Cowboy's past success, I get a sense that Dallas' fans tend to feel more entitled, and our expectations are are similar to the aftermath of a crack high? Sounds about right.

With the exception of new England, I suspect most boards are the same. Pats fans have little about which to complain.
I'm sure there are the detractors - perfectionists and control freaks.

I think Brady just started his descent last season and it’s only downhill from there. Give those fans some time.

Minus a condescending sense of entitlement, pretty much the same as every other team’s fans.

The condescending sense of entitlement is not really surprising, considering the iconic status of our team!

I'll compare the two fan bases I encounter daily in my world: Browns and Steelers.

Gotta hand it to Browns fans - that's some serious loyalty (or mental illness, according to some of them). They appreciate every positive moment they get and each summer brings new hope. I'd like to see them get rewarded for it by at least flirting with .500 this year. We'll see.

Steelers fans are incredibly spoiled. They complain about Tomlin, Ben, Bell, you name it. It's been almost a decade since they played in a Super Bowl and "Steeler fan" is fed up with such futility. They're also brutal to Browns fans. I would love to see the fates of those franchises trade places soon. It probably won't happen, but it would be glorious.

Unlikely as it seems, I could see Browns overtake Steelers in year or two. Will likely come down to young quarterback developments w/two teams. Roethlesberger is getting old.

These fans teams arnt even that bad and they are complaining. I wish we were that good where all we had to do was nitpick when bored.

I spend time on the Giants board and it's fairly active Their old board is shutting down in July just like the DC.com board did but a new and active board has sprung up in its place which I have posted on. There were a couple of regular Cowboy posters there last year but haven't seen them pop up on the new board yet . For balance I get plenty of "you and your team sucks" replies but I usually have my boots on and give it back when I have the right ammo.

Pretty decent posters and more level headed than over here IMO. I'd like to think we Dallas fans are a bit spoiled but that can't be as sucky as we've performed in the last 20+years. And I don't mean this whole board but the doom and gloomers are a large proportion. Plenty of really good and informative posters here which is why I come over here. I was on the DC.com board only a couple of years . I do read BTB comment quite a bit and rarely post there.

Now, I go over and read Bleeding Green Nation from time to time. It's a vile site with vile posters. There is no other fan site in the interwebs that even comes close in arrogance, vulgarity, and tunnel vision. The mods there take no counter responses from other team's fans and it is super simple to get banned.

For the last few years I search for our opponent's fan boards the week of the game to see what the feelings are among our opponent's fans. That can be interesting. Many times it is hard to find a decent active board though. I really like reading the other fans thoughts. Doesn't BTB do a segment where they cruise other teams boards in response to our game?

One of my brothers in law lives in Denver and is a huge broncos fan. I have seen some things on a Broncos fan board, and our fans seem pretty tame compared to their boards. If Jerry’s lack of success was happening in Denver, they would be running him out of town.

I have cousin who married a Filly fan. (Still hard to believe) Seriously, he’s actually a pretty good dude, but you should see the fan stuff on their boards. Unbelievable. They are ruthless.

IMO, the fans here are generally divided into these groups:
1. The Koolaiders- they believe anything the Jones cartel throws out and we are SB bound every year, if the refs don’t screw us.
2. The Doomers- the “Eeyores” who believe we are doomed every year, every day, All the time.
3. The “Show me” pragmatist fans- long time fans who love the Cowboys, but after the last 22 years are saying “Show me the money”. Fans with eyes wide open.
4. Fair weather-Band wagon fans- if we go on a win streak, they knew it would happen.

If there are any fans like that here...I haven’t met one. Not recently on here. Let’s talk about supposed ‘koolaiders’

As for Jerry as GM...I doubt there any fans here who wouldn’t be happy to see him fully hand over the reigns. Maybe 1 or 2, if that. The reality of the matter is that practically he has handed off a lot of the duties, decisions. Many of us just have accepted the reality of the situation.

As for Jason...are there any fans here who think Garrett is a top coach? Maybe a couple, if that. I’d be delighted in a coaching upgrade...I just tire of fans who fixate on it and inject it into every damn thread...and somehow think Jason is a devil sent to destroy their dreams. I also think Red is closer to average than most care to admit.

A writer or two at Blogging the Boys can go heavy koolaid mode. I don’t really see it on this forum.
