How do the Cowboys fit in?

Became a Cowboys fan when Roger was drafted by the team. My uncle was his teammate at the Naval Academy. I was introduced to him and became a fan the minute I met him. It inspired me to follow my football dreams, which I did all the way to playing four years at Rutgers. My NFL dream ended in the training camps of the NYG and Washington. I did coach for many years though.
That's cool. I'm glad I asked this question...getting some insight from some of you guys is pretty interesting

I was conceived under the bleachers at the HS homecoming game. My first words were "the Commanders suck". I got expelled from kindergarten for beating some loser wearing a Giants jersey. That's where i learned that life isn't fair. I mean, on what planet should it not be OK to beat up a Giants fan?

So yea. Football has shaped my life.

Oh yea, I was also captain of the football team in reform school!
Did you ever set a Washington fan on fire? Try it, it's invigorating

I had a chance to push one into the Grand Canyon once. To many witnesses so I chickened out.

I know, I know. I'm not a true fan I guess.

Well, my Dad was an immigrant from Sicily. He didn't like sports. We lived next door to my grandma when I was growing up. She would watch football games, on occasion. On one of those occasions, I was at her house, and she was watching a football game between the Cowboys and Dolphins (regular season game). I was around 9 or 10 years old. I asked her who she was rooting for. She said normally, she was a fan of the Cowboys, but because she was born in Florida, she was rooting for the Dolphins! I scolded her for rooting against a Texas team!! LOL
I remember being fascinated by Staubach and how well Tom Landry was dressed on the sidelines. I was hooked!! Been a fan ever since!! It also helped that many of my cousins were Cowboys fans too, but I wasn't interested in that before the age of 10!!

I grew up in New York and my parents were poor back then. Being NYC, I needed a winter coat for school and the ones on sale happened to be the Dallas Cowboys. lol. I thought it was the coolest coat. I didn't know what the Cowboys were I just like the giant star logo. I had that coat for years. I've lived in NYC, LA, Chicago, but have always been a Cowboys fan since then.

What's your story? I started playing football in 1975, that winter, I became a Cowboys fan when I saw the Hail Mary pass! No one in my family really cared about the sport, so the next 51 years I've been on this Cowboys roller coaster, pretty much by myself, my wife joined me 36 years ago. Many of you know, football shaped my life and to this day, 10 years after my retirement, it continues too do so. Go Cowboys, Salud to all of you guys for sticking by a team that makes it tough on its fanbase. Just a few more days, I CAN'T WAIT!
Please share your thoughts.
Thanksgiving Day 1974, I was 10. At my Grandparents house in Western NY. Cowboys/ Commanders clash. It was my start of love for the Cowboys and pure hate for Washington. Staubach wasn't having a good game and then got knocked out- concussion, I believe. Clint Longley comes in trailing 16-3. Hits Dupree for a TD to get them back in it, then at the end the bomb to 88.
It was the rare season that Dallas didn't make the playoffs. My love continues and so does my hate for Washington. From George Allen on the sidelines licking his fingers and leading that ridiculous chant, to Billy Kilmer breaking the huddle and always pulling up his britches as he walked to the line, to Diron Talbert saying Staubach was a sissy and Craig Morton had been the better QB. Ugh. Gag.

Great topic, always.

..dang Ranch, you're a football junky. ..haha. That's awesome man, I wished you lived down the block from me.

You'd see my Dallas flag outside, flying high.

My Dallas introduction is bit not so ordinary. San Diego back in 79' one of my 5th grade best friends, had just moved from San Antone.
Always wore something Dallas. Whether it was jacket, beanie cap, T-shirt ..etc.
I asked him, whats with this Dallas stuff? He told me its the Cowboys football team. I never heard of them.
He asked me, are you Charger fan? I said, who's that? .....lol... I was not kidding, I had no clue who Chargers we're either.
I only knew The Padres as the city sport.
He took out a brand new Dallas Cowboy silver pencil with blue stripes on it, Dallas signa engraved. It looked awesome to me.
He gave me it and said, your now a Dallas Cowboys dude.

I never looked back, since. :).

I was born in Texas in 1954 and have been a Dallas Cowboys fan since 1962. My father was an Air Force pilot stationed in Athens Greece in 1959-61. We moved back to the States in early ’62 and I discovered the Cowboys that fall at 8 years old… I was hooked from that year on. My dad was from NE and always took the team facing the Cowboys, especially the Commanders, so Sundays were always full of fun and football arguments, my brother and I against our dad. Good times! It remained that way until dad’s passing a few year back.

Wow!! Great story!!

I’m happy about that, for you, I know you were having issues with something physically
Yeah, 3 herniated discs and bone on bone knees. I've lost about 25 pounds, hit 259 this morning after breakfast. My doctor told me that every 5 pounds lost equates to 100 pounds of stress on my knees and back. Been feeling pretty good. Thanks

My stepdad kind of a Cowboys fan but he was also a gambler. He almost always bet on the other team plus or minus points and usually would win because of all the Cowboys fans betting on the Cowboys and influencing the odds.

I went to a video store one day with some friends, and we stumbled upon some interesting stuff.....all kidding aside, when you live in Canada and are stuck watching CFL football, the NFL becomes a weekly ritual, which it did about 40 years ago. It was the dynasty years of the 90's that got me hooked on Cowboys football, and since then......well.....wellp....well....here we are

Dang, I did have a spinal fusion after my discs from L5-L3 were basically disintegrated. I was in so much pain and I'm a big guy (6'4, 275), but the two years to full recovery were worth it.

In 1975 I started paying attention to football after my dad broke my favorite little chair after the Steelers beat us in the SB. I was like "Whoa! This sport must be important for my dad to break my little chair." I started watching the games with my dad and played PW from there. My dad was a huge Longhorns fan; he took me to see Earl Campbell play many times. I wanted to be like him and even wore #20 in Pop Warner. Unfortunately for me, even Navin R. Johnson had more athletic ability than me. My Pop Warner coach took one look at me running, all knock-kneed and slew footed, he told me I will never be a RB. *sniff sniff*

Being that I was (still am) a huge Earl Campbell fan, the only time I cared about another team besides our Cowboys was when the Oilers drafted Earl. Now, I only have time for our Cowboys. Been a fan from 1975 to this day. Through thick and thin. They are my favorite sports team and will always be my favorite. Spurs came close to dethroning them though.

Sure, I can be like some here and say I was born a fan because my parents were fans. By that standard, I was born a fan too. But I wasn't crying when they lost to the Colts in the Ice Bowl. I was too young to remember that. But I sure as hell cried seeing my favorite little chair being broke into a million pieces.

The road to 20-0 starts next Sunday.

GO COWBOYS! :star:

Blacks Beach! ...lol that used to be something 80's- 90's, .. recently i've heard lots of wierdos. I've never been.
