How do they get the names on the jerseys at the draft?

No way they thought Dallas would take Claiborne...do they make 50 different jerseys for all 32 teams?

I'm betting they have all the jerseys and the letters on hand and in that one minute that they are stalling that jersey is being made. Probably still hot when they flip it open.

No, believe they said on the broadcast they were making them on the fly when the picks were selected.

No, they print up the names on the blank jerseys behind the scenes, immediately as the pick arrives.

When I went to Korea, we got handed 7 Camo blouse and trousers. We took those to a building with a bunch of little old Korean ladies. I watched them sew name tags on all 14 pieces in about 45 seconds.

It's possible they just sew the names on, on the fly.

I was told that making the jerseys is what slowed up the announcements of the next pick. They didn't anticipate the speed of the picks early on.

It's amazing how fast that technology works. Pretty soon they will basically have the numbers they will wear up as they are being drafted as well.

These jerseys were just the screen printed replica jerseys. They have a jersey with the #1 on it for all of the teams, and simply print the name on the back. They probably had it hooped and ready to go for each team. If that is the case they can do it in a few minutes with no problem.

I'm waiting to see the smoke coming off one of them.

How's married life going.

That was one of the coolest things of the night. Way to go Nike for thinking outside of the box and asking themselves how they can make the draft night experience even better. Below is the article on how they did it.

For first time ever, player jerseys were customized on site

Backstage last night at Radio City Music Hall, well before the Chiefs’ selection with the 11th pick in the draft was announced, I saw someone carrying a red jersey with white letters and yellow trim that had the name “POE” on the back. I resisted the temptation (unlike another guy in the media who repeatedly took a page from his apple-eating Biblical namesake) to broadcast the pick via Twitter. Besides, I was more curious about something else.

How many different jerseys with “POE” on the back were in the building, and how could I finagle one of them?

League spokesman Brian McCarthy has supplied the answer: None.

For the first time ever, Nike was customizing the jerseys on site. Thus, for any of the 26 men in the green room, a jersey would have been instantly prepared for any team taking any player.

Brian sent along the picture of the process, with the names of each player ready to be printed up and applied to the back of the jerseys.

So there will be no collector’s items this year or, apparently, in any future years, like the Colts jersey bearing the name and number of Ryan Leaf, which Dan Patrick has in his studio.

That's really cool.

The names are on panels that are sewn on the jersey normally...

They probably just have a bunch of panels, then likely sew or hot glue them on after the pick...

per a reliable source, the NFL has the jerseys made and makes the teams pick according to the already printed jerseys--the draft is a sham controlled by the networks--they already have next years playoffs and SB planned--the Steelers will play the Eagles and the Eagles will win it all

And all this time I thought they magic Elf's behind the curtain.

I am now disillusioned.

i would think the 10 minutes of hugging before coming on stage slowed things down.

I doubt that's what slowed things down. The draft was flying and they wanted to get in all their commercial breaks to make some more money is my guess.
