How Do We Stop SF Running Game?

I feel that if the front seven can get to the QB on passing downs the 49ers offense will become one-dimensional. That will at least allow the boys to better stop the run game.
the Dline is going to have to be in Purdy's face all night.

We don't really have the horses to stop their run game. We just have to try and contain it.

We can still win the game giving up 4 YPC on a lot of carries. But if SF gets rolling like the 2018 Rams playoff game... see ya next season.

+1

They are ripe for the upset. Squashing TB on the road is great medicine. Dallas will need to bring their big boy pants to SF, but if they come out like they did last night, SF will have a lot to deal with.

Zero pressure on Dallas as EVERYONE loves SF and has already booked them tickets to the SB.

Purdy vs Quinn. That is the matchup IMO. I think DQ makes him look like the rookie he is and Dallas “shocks” the NFL Sun night.
Man I hope your right. The kid is awfully impressive. At least I think so.

I'm loading up the box and taking their running game out of the equation. At the same time, I am disguising and bringing pressure all day long.

Although I am not going to take anything away from him, we are playing against a rookie 7th round pick at Quarterback. If I am Dan Quinn, I am going to force him to make quick decisions and go all out to make that offense one dimensional. I understand that they have really good skill players across the board and that they may hit something big a time or two. With that said, I am not going to let their running game beat me. I am going to make Purdy beat me.

I don't think I'd play Micah too much at DE.. They'll run at him. Move him around a lot I think the DEs and DTs will need to play for the run.. and let's make a rookie QB beat us. And use LVE for the run as much as is possible.

You don't stop it, but you have to make them play on 3rd down and not get killed with chunk plays. They also use the pass as an extension of the run game.

Four big keys to slowing their running attack:
  1. The DEs have to set the edge consistently, and not allow the Niners to run their outside zone and sweeps. This is where they can gash an opposing defense.
  2. The tackling has to be on point, especially at the LB and CB positions. Don't let them build a head of steam.
  3. Don't take the cheese. Niners run a lot of jet sweep motion. LBs need to remain disciplined and focus on the running backs, and not lose their gaps paying attention to the jet sweep.
  4. The offense needs to be efficient and get out to a lead and continue to build.

:hammer: .......

Gonna say it now...LVE vs McCaffery

Who can play vs who taps out first might decide this game.

Funny people forget how injury prone McCaffery is....
I think Kearse, LVE and Wilson are key to Mc.

Jonathan Hankins is the Lynch pin

How can we stop the 49ers run game?

Go to church this week and light a lot of candles.

Haven't paid them attention at all this season, even though my GF is a Seahawks fan.

Can Purdy run? Shadow McC and then what about Samuels or vice versa? I'll take our chances loading the box and singling up on their receivers for at least a qtr or two.

I would play Micah mostly at LB in this game, their run game is a bigger threat than Purdy.

Shanny had our heads spinning last season with all the misdirection stuff and they play fast and physical on offense. Deebo has to be gang tackled and wrapped up. CMC is just fast and tough as well. It’s going to be a tall task folks.

That doesn’t even include Purdy scrambling all over the joint which we have trouble with.

What sucks is that it's now not just Deebo. With McCaffery back there, they now have two legit stud home run threats that they can line up in the backfield or split out at WR.

Quinn is going to earn his salary this weekend.

Yeah CMC is good no doubt but Mosert was a stud as well. Every back they get excels. The system is awesome

LVE can’t keep up with him
Will have to be Kearse or Wilson

I hope Diggs is aware they will be running to his side most of the game.

Wrong. They will probably be the toughest defense we have faced all season. Let’s not forget that just last week this team essentially laid an egg against Washington. You could say there wasn’t “much” on the line but they still looked like hot garbage.

This offense has been putting up a consistent amount of points (like at least 25+) for weeks ever since Purdy has taken over.
The Raiders contest was eye opening.

The 49ers secret is they can't cover. At all. They are 100% reliant on the front 4 getting pressure. If we kero Dak upright he will strafe the 49ers.

As far as the Niners running game: defend outside (edge) in this contest and hope Hankins has a good game.

Trade 3 for 7's. Or 6's if Maher is fried. Redzone D is key.

I don't think the Cowboys can or will stop their run game, they have to outscore it.

TOP is old school and the shift began with the passing game to a points off possessions.

The D must team tackle and be a swarm and not let them get yards after contact and when the O gets in the RZ, has to be TD's, FG's won't cut it.

They must put pressure on Purdy to take too much on himself. He's been very good and played within their system but the Cowboys may just have the pass rush to get him rattled.

I think the thing to remember here is not that the Cowboys lost that playoff game but that they had the chance to win it in the end after getting pretty much slapped by them. They will not be intimidated this time and will do some slapping of their own.

The Cowboys offense is not what the Niners played last time with Pollard stepping up as well as the receiving corps. And Prescott's confidence level has to be at an all time high.
