I say bring back the chain gang when measuring 1st downs. Do you think this will be a problem during the season. They were saying "get the kinks out during pre season" well I hope they do. I'm not a fan of it, I think it puts too much emphasis on technology. I mean we all want the right call, but the old way worked for soooo many years! Please give your thoughts on this!

I think it takes too much time. So it seems.

Are they going to use it during the regular season, or just testing in the the PS?

I think they should use both as a check to see which is more accurate.
If they're doing it now it seems like they're going to do it during the season, I mean why invest in all of this and not use it. I think it sucks

Digital down tech is NOT slower. The league did their tests and report an avg 30 sec improvement over the chain gang. Advantage goes to technology!

It is not slower. It just seems slower. There is nothing for the fan to watch. One ref huddled over the ball while everyone else on the field stands around with their thumbs ...

We like the chain gang because it is show. Something to watch. By giving this part of the play to the no-see-um robots the league has taken one element of fun and anticipation away from the fan. Watching the chain gang gather their sticks and go through the full process on the field, with or without an index card, was attention holding, interest holding, for the fan. Now we have a stoppage with no action, anywhere. Nothing but the "Jeopardy" theme playing intrusively in the back of my mind.

The statistician and the technologist are taking over the game. Soon we can feed game stats into a box and have the computer tell us who won. We could play the entire season in an hour! Oh what fun!

I would love to see them block and tackle the actual football players, maybe they can take over and play football??

They block and tackle through weighted random tables in "D-line Simulation Modules". The big problem is the "Holding Simulation" mod keeps flagging the "O-line Simulation".

..whats an extra 10-20 seconds, deciding crucial 1st down.

Tech taking the ethics out of football.

So it save 30 seconds.
How much does a 30 second commercial cost?

Do 4 measurements a game. Probably more than that. Get an extra 30 seconds. So 2 minutes more of commercials.
8 will get you 4 minutes.

Revenue is king over quality.
Ask Jerry, he knows all about that.

I can't wait to see one that is measured out to a thousandth of inch.

It's a game of .001 inches.
Does the technology take into account right foot left foot ball placement.

Wonder what John Madden would say about it.
I am sure he could come up with some good ones as they are waiting the results.
