How do you guys feel about DeMarcus Walker?

Just curious of you guys thoughts. Highly productive player, notching 15.5 TFL and 10.5 sacks as a junior, then improving as a senior getting 16.5 TFL and 15.5 sacks. What I don't like about him, is his frame. I've seen him listed as tall as 6'4 which would be great, but also as short as 6'2, arm length will be interesting to know. I also don't see a very explosive player when I watch him, but I do see a high motor guy who can line up at DE or DT and beat you inside or outside. I think he clearly ranks below the SEC DEs, Allen, Myles, Barnett, Lawson and Harris, but I think he could be someone we target at the end of the first round or after trading into the top of the second.

Just to be clear, he is not a RDE. Adding him would mean Lawrence would be moved to RDE from now on, but we could at least kick Crawford back inside. And while I would prefer a RDE, there may not be one available in the 29-32 range. Harold Landry will likely shoot up draft boards *if* he even declares, so I'm really more curious how people feel about Walker

This is the guy I have in the Pet Cat thread. Been on him all year - you are right, he is not a RDE. He is strong side all the way. My thought is he would be another DE/DT who could kick inside on 3rd downs. Big, Strong and has a bit of a nasty disposition. Have seen him as high as 15 - 20 range, and as low as mid - second round. Draft combine will be big for him to see how his skills match up with all the RDE guys.
If someone like Landry was there, we have to take them, but I would still be very happy with Walker.

From what i have seen, this board is split on him. Some think he goes top 20 and others think he falls out the 1st. Few think he goes top 10. I have read that he has the same body type as Johnathan Bullard last year who went in the 3rd due to being a tweener. I would strongly consider him with our 1st if a pure edge rusher like Landry, Lawson, or Harris is not available or a good corner is not available. Mine as well dominate from the strong side if a solution for RDE cant be had like how the Pats did with Richard Seymour

As much as we need a RDE I think it's a mistake to predetermine your draft and reach for a RDE. Let's be honest, we're more than one pass rusher away. Tyrone Crawford leads us in sacks at 3.5 and I can't remember the last time he had one. Orlando Sandrick is in our top 5 in sacks with 2. That's embarrassing. If you're on the clock and Walker is better than the RDE you are looking at, take Walker. Walker and Landry have created more havoc than any DL in the country the year and that includes Garrett and Allen.

I like Walker. He may not be the best pure pass rusher but he gets a lot of pressure on hustle alone which I like. A lot of these pressure players lack consistent effort. He does not.

That being said the most consistently disruptive edge player I have seen is Ejuan Price. NOW...he is short. BUT...he has incredible bend and a relentless motor. He has been unblockable at times. I think it'll be a mistake to over look him because of his height. Interesting to see his true arm length at the combine.

The Elvis Dumervil comparisons will begin once everyone declares

He reminds me of Jeremy Mincey. Good but not great (as a NFL prospect). He'll get the occasional sack but he isn't the type of player you have to prepare or gameplan for.

We need a pass rush but this team has shown they can be effective without it.

Give me a quality corner over a typical 2nd round DE in the 1st round.

Give me an offensive tackle too over just a run of the mill DE.

Which CB or OT are you referring to? And who's targeting a 2nd round DE in 1? Is that CB or OT better than guys like Walker or Landry?

I like him. I think he can play either DE position or 3 tech.

Love his game and could very well become a possibility for Dallas as I see DeMarcus Walker going late 1st if he puts up great combine numbers. More likely, Walker will be one of the first 10 picks on day 2 of the draft
