What is everyone's top 4 draft priority needs this year:

  1. Starting Left Guard-if the team is going to keep Tyler at LT, they have to fill Left Guard
  2. Tight End-many discount the loss of Dalton Shultz, he was the team's #2 receiving option and was the guy who moved the sticks.
  3. Running Back-Zeke clearly wasn't the same player, Pollard never has carried the load and is coming off of a broken leg
  4. Defensive Tackle-not only do they struggle to stop the run, but get no interior pressure what so ever

Left Guard
TE
RB
CB

We HAVE with a LG/flex T start this season. All this Steele to LG, or Tyron to LT or Tyler to LG are band-aides coz the min Tyron goes down we are shuffling.

Hankins and Osa ain’t enough. With a good draft we definitely position ourselves to be a playoff team. But this team‘s interior is weak. And we’ve really done nothing to address it.
It needs improvement, no question about that but our defensive run game was not as bad as you think. Check the stats.......The Giants were worst than ours, and we gave up some like only 170 ( maybe off a little here ) more than the Eagles. But both those teams have ALL-Pro DTs alone a strong Dline.

Nobody talks about it, but they had more trouble on the outside runs to Parsons side. Think Quinn finally figured it out late that Parsons was best off the ball as a linebacker in obvious run situations. No doubt need to add another DT, but that isn't the only cause of a leaky run defense.

We also have to consider that we still have cap space and are getting 10 million more with the June 1st Zeke release. That money will allow us to shore up some depth areas.

Excellent point. That’s also when the players who did not get market value sign for one year value deals

And that is exactly why Jerry doesn’t make it a priority. We can get through a season with a mediocre interior and still be a playoff team. The problem is, when we really need our front to hold up, it doesn’t. They draft these guys I. round 5 and 6 and none of them work out. We suck at drafting lineman. Gotta find some dudes at some point. There is just so much Quinn can do with an absolute lack of talent.

Players like A'Shaun Robinson, R. Evans both are still out there. Risner the Guard from the Broncos was considered the top Guard on the open market. Pretty sure there are a few veteran tight ends as well.

Our DL coach went up to Wisconsin's pro day, to look at Benton who is the best in the class. They brought in Roy, who is similar but not as good. There is some hope, but we need to see it to believe it!

Round one needs to be a high floor low risk player that's the best value that falls to us.

Starting Left Guard
Should be able to fill on day 2

Tight End
Should be able to fill round 3 or later

RB
could Fill day 2 or later
There are quite a few that are very good receivers
Robinson, Gibbs, Achane, McIntosh

DT
Day 2 or later

WR
Need one in the first three rounds

I like Roy but really like Benton. I don’t think he makes it to 58, so if they want him, they would need to move back. We are fortunate that this draft is loaded with quality at need positions (CB,TE & RB) on day 3. IMO, you can get a quality CB, TE, and RB 1-2 rounds later in this draft due to depth. I prefer moving back to pick up an additional 3rd.

NT - day 2
LG - day 2
CB, TE, RB - day 3

  • BPA in the 1st round. Worry about need in later rounds.
    • 1st round
      • The Cowboys probably have about 18 players with 1st round grades.
      • There is good chance that one of the 18 drops to #26.
      • There is a low probability that the one player is at the position of highest need.
      • i.e. Don't pass on a player with a 1st round grade to draft a 2nd round rated player due to need.
    • 2nd round and later
      • After the 1st round, there is a good change of several players with similar grades being available at the Cowboys pick.
  • DT
    • My biggest concern. I actually prefer to get a big 3tech over a 1tech.
    • Keeanu Benton (6-4, 309) with good arm length (33 7/8) would be perfect.
    • Will Benton be available at #58?
  • TE
    • Is the least experienced position group on the team.
  • OG
    • If Steele is healthy, it's going to be:
      • Tyron Tyler Biadasz Martin Steele
      • You have to listen to Stephen Jones, not Jerry.
      • Stephen: "We'll play the best 5. Cable will make that determination".
      • Stephen: "I can't see a scenario where Tyron is not one of the top 5".
    • Other OG options
      • Farniok can likely be about as good as McGovern with enough experience.
        • McGovern was terrible in 2021 (4 starts) but decent in 2022.
      • Chuma Edoga has 13 NFL starts. Considered a plus run blocker that has pass pro issues at OT.
        • A move to OG might be his ideal fit.
  • RB (2023)
    • Tony Pollard:
      • Proven veteran RB.
      • The offense fell apart once he was injured in the playoff game.
    • Ronald Jones:
      • Not a dynamic RB but is a reliable veteran backup.
      • Was considered a good pass blocker in college. He's probably improved since then.
      • Is only 25 and has averaged greater then 4.1 ypc each of the last 4 seasons.
      • Side Note 1: District champion in the 100 meters in High School (McKinney TX).
      • Side Note 2: On the USC track team.
    • Malik Davis:
      • Many fans/media thought should have played more last season.
    • Rico Dowdle:
      • The teams seems to like him for some reason.
    • Draft Pick:
      • There will be options in multiple rounds that can contribute as rookies.
  • RB (2024)
    • The difference between early rounds vs mid/late rounds might be more about 2024 than 2023.
    • An early round pick is highly likely to make it optional to re-sign Pollard in 2024.
    • A mid/late round pick can likely contribute in 2023 but has a lower probability of being a legit starter in 2024.

Defensive tackle

This position has been WOEFULLY neglected for far too long. The top teams in the NFL have studs at this position. We seem to use draft capital on DTs that are just roster fillers not difference makers.

Tight End

The game has turned into a passing league. Having a TE that can create mismatches all over the field is vital imo. We heed a playmaker at this position, not more of the same.

This. We obviously have no clue how to draft interior lineman. Osa is the only decent guy we’ve drafted in what seems like forever. And we won’t add any real talent in FA. Quinn can only do so much with a limited group.

I think you’ve got it covered, but in no way does that mean that’s the only positions I’m looking at.

Would love to see us add a WE, DE and CB in the first few rounds. Our need potions are more mid round type targets.
