What is everyone's top 4 draft priority needs this year:

  1. Starting Left Guard-if the team is going to keep Tyler at LT, they have to fill Left Guard
  2. Tight End-many discount the loss of Dalton Shultz, he was the team's #2 receiving option and was the guy who moved the sticks.
  3. Running Back-Zeke clearly wasn't the same player, Pollard never has carried the load and is coming off of a broken leg
  4. Defensive Tackle-not only do they struggle to stop the run, but get no interior pressure what so ever
1. Did the team say they were going to keep Tyler at tackle this season? I hear insiders saying things but I don’t think Avila is a better pro guard then Tyler. I get the impression they will go best five. If everyone is healthy Tyron, Tyler, Badacz, Martin and Steele can play with anyone in the league. They will draft a future guard but I can’t see the bpa being a guard at 26.
2. Tight end is a big need. I don’t see the big 2 falling to 26. I actually think we have a better chance at Robinson over Kincaid/Mayer. I hope Washington or one of the tier 2 tight ends fall to 58.
3. Running back, now everyone is worried about Pollard’s ankle fracture. You would have thought it was amputated. Murray had the same injury and then had an offensive player of the year season. BPA in the draft.
4. Defensive tackle. The Cowboys will pick someone in the 4th/5th. They believe in pass rush more then stopping the run.

The Cowboys probably have 8-10 needs when you really think about cornerbacks, Wideouts, pass rushers, kickers and playmakers.

This is pretty much it. Would love to see our first four picks go to these positions in whatever order. Best player available.

I like Roy but really like Benton. I don’t think he makes it to 58, so if they want him, they would need to move back. We are fortunate that this draft is loaded with quality at need positions (CB,TE & RB) on day 3. IMO, you can get a quality CB, TE, and RB 1-2 rounds later in this draft due to depth. I prefer moving back to pick up an additional 3rd.

NT - day 2
LG - day 2
CB, TE, RB - day 3
Benton is also my favorite in the class. I do think he makes it to 58, but I doubt they draft him there. I wanted Travis Jones last year and they took Sam Williams I feel a rd early. Jones actually fell to the third round. Roy is probably our best hope.

  • BPA in the 1st round. Worry about need in later rounds.
    • 1st round
      • The Cowboys probably have about 18 players with 1st round grades.
      • There is good chance that one of the 18 drops to #26.
      • There is a low probability that the one player is at the position of highest need.
      • i.e. Don't pass on a player with a 1st round grade to draft a 2nd round rated player due to need.
    • 2nd round and later
      • After the 1st round, there is a good change of several players with similar grades being available at the Cowboys pick.
  • DT
    • My biggest concern. I actually prefer to get a big 3tech over a 1tech.
    • Keeanu Benton (6-4, 309) with good arm length (33 7/8) would be perfect.
    • Will Benton be available at #58?
  • TE
    • Is the least experienced position group on the team.
  • OG
    • If Steele is healthy, it's going to be:
      • Tyron Tyler Biadasz Martin Steele
      • You have to listen to Stephen Jones, not Jerry.
      • Stephen: "We'll play the best 5. Cable will make that determination".
      • Stephen: "I can't see a scenario where Tyron is not one of the top 5".
    • Other OG options
      • Farniok can likely be about as good as McGovern with enough experience.
        • McGovern was terrible in 2021 (4 starts) but decent in 2022.
      • Chuma Edoga has 13 NFL starts. Considered a plus run blocker that has pass pro issues at OT.
        • A move to OG might be his ideal fit.
  • RB (2023)
    • Tony Pollard:
      • Proven veteran RB.
      • The offense fell apart once he was injured in the playoff game.
    • Ronald Jones:
      • Not a dynamic RB but is a reliable veteran backup.
      • Was considered a good pass blocker in college. He's probably improved since then.
      • Is only 25 and has averaged greater then 4.1 ypc each of the last 4 seasons.
      • Side Note 1: District champion in the 100 meters in High School (McKinney TX).
      • Side Note 2: On the USC track team.
    • Malik Davis:
      • Many fans/media thought should have played more last season.
    • Rico Dowdle:
      • The teams seems to like him for some reason.
    • Draft Pick:
      • There will be options in multiple rounds that can contribute as rookies.
  • RB (2024)
    • The difference between early rounds vs mid/late rounds might be more about 2024 than 2023.
    • An early round pick is highly likely to make it optional to re-sign Pollard in 2024.
    • A mid/late round pick can likely contribute in 2023 but has a lower probability of being a legit starter in 2024.
-Agree, BPA at 26, take a future pro bowl starter and don't reach to fill a need.
-Rd 2/3-you have to figure this is where they want to find a Guard and another offensive weapon. Love Benton, think he makes it to 58, but I think they will take an offensive player over him.
-TE could either be very high or day 3, probably will sign a veteran fa to go with their young prospects. Thinking another one drafted early day 3.
-DT is my biggest concern and I worry they think there are fine there, outside of more depth.

Defensive tackle

This position has been WOEFULLY neglected for far too long. The top teams in the NFL have studs at this position. We seem to use draft capital on DTs that are just roster fillers not difference makers.

Tight End

The game has turned into a passing league. Having a TE that can create mismatches all over the field is vital imo. We heed a playmaker at this position, not more of the same.
Kincaid is that modern TE and would really be an excellent weapon, not sure if he makes it to 26 or if there are better options to draft. Cannot rule it out.

I think you’ve got it covered, but in no way does that mean that’s the only positions I’m looking at.

Would love to see us add a WE, DE and CB in the first few rounds. Our need potions are more mid round type targets.
Cannot address everything: think going in their goals should be:

-Adding one more offensive weapon in the passing game
-Shore up the OL
-Draft a quality complement #2 RB
-Add either a future starting Edge or Corner
-Shore up their run defense-which I don't think they will do, have my doubts.

Filling DT is my biggest worry. Everything else is very doable.

Most of these guys don’t just come in and become a factor. It takes time. Robinson would be a good add that could make a difference. But adding another guy in the middle rounds is needed. And I’m not talking about 5th and 6th round guys.

Good analysis...................if they draft a RB in either the 1st or 2nd round, I think Pollard might be one and done on the tag, kinda like Schultz was.

$10 mill for a RB is kinda absurb when you could get Bijan or Gibbs on a 4 year rookie deal and a 5th year option if first round pick.

Believe with the way the off season went, they can actually fill those spots plus WR without reaching in any round. I see Dallas getting an offersa very good deal to move out of the first and end up with 4 picks on day 2.

Who are these teams jumping up for? Teams usually only move up for QB's late in the 1st rd, there appear to be none that will go in that range.
