How Does Cowboys Front 7 Compare to 2007 Giants

When Tank and Randy return, I like how this Cowboys front 7 stacks up with the 2007 Giants. If we recall, their front 7 ended a perfect season for the Patriots in the SB.

The 2007 Giants had 53 sacks that year. Led by Umenyiora (13), Tuck (10), and Strahan (9).

The Cowboys won't get 53 sacks (21 so far) due to how many games Tank and Randy have missed but I can easily see our top 3 sack leaders going something like this by the end of the season:

Parsons (15) - he already has 8
Randy (12) - he already has 5
Tank (7 or 8)

The QB pressures are already good - leading to opportunistic turnovers (Diggs). Once we have Tank and Randy out there, Dan Quinn is gonna fully unleash Parsons. I like the opportunities Odighizuwa, Dorance Armstrong will get too going forward.

Our front 7 will be formidable and soon. The 2007 Giants didn't have any pro bowlers in their secondary, if I recall correctly. TB12 had 50 TD passes but didn't go off like that in the SB. This is our blueprint. We gonna make a run this year. I feel it. :starspin:

How in the **** do you think tank is going to hit 8 sacks playing in 6 games?

and how the **** do you think Gregory is going to hit 12 when he isn’t even practicing right now ?

you basically have tank Gregory and parsons getting 1 sack each every single game they play..that’s absurd

I think if Lawrence and Gregory come back and stay healthy, this defensive is going to be one of the reasons we have a legit chance in January/February. That is a nasty front 7. MAYBE not as good as the Giants, but it's one of the better ones in the league this year.

Tank won't reach 7 sacks. It'll be interesting to see how they use Parsons when dlaw comes back and then again with the addition of Randy. With all 3 they weren't having Parsons rush but now how can they not rush him atleast some.

That team peaked in the playoffs.

their regular season stats weren't special at all.

But YES, big if, but if we get fully healthy Tank and Gregory late in the year and playoffs, this could be interesting

The QB pressures are getting there and having an effect already - and we are not playing with our best two defensive ends. Case in point, when was the last time Patrick Mahomes failed to throw even 1 TD - even with all of his weapons? We went into KC and held them to 19 points without Tank and Randy.

I'm excited for where we are and how much better we'll be in short order.

Sometimes sacks come in bunches. We'll see if my optimism outweighs your pessimism soon enough. :)

The 2007 NY Giants had much better DTs. Barry Cofield, Russell Davis, Fred Robbins, and William Joseph were all better than anyone Dallas has playing DT right now.
Agreed. Robbins had 5.5 sacks that year and was a good run stuffer.

I’m completely on board w the general idea. The pass rush has a chance to be electric. I just don’t think the numbers you posted are realistic. That’s irrelevant to the overall point, which is a point that I agree with. Parsons, Tank, Gregory will be a damn problem for opposing offenses.

Will “Tank” even get to 4 sacks this year?
I predict this is the first year in a few years that he doesn't see as many double teams as usual. Teams legit fear Randy and Parsons. Tank will get opportunities to put up sack numbers.

Lets not forget we have the Canadian kid coming back in Gallimore too. Unless you believe @Dak_Attack_09 that him and Tank arent playing this season lol
I forgot about Neville tbh. Dan Quinn has done an outstanding job with an undermanned front 7. Even our whipping boy Trysten Hill is showing up little bit.

This thread is the future.

Been focusing on Oline so much, forgot that the other line can win you championships too.

Praying everyone stays healthy or gets healthy… tourney teams don’t know what is headed for them.

The way I see it. We are getting everyone back for the backend of the schedule. that gives them 7 games to get back into football shape and get the defense and offense humming going into the playoffs. From there. Lets see.

I understand everyone wanted Gregory to be the next Charles Haley but we really do need to get a grip. We should be happy we got 5 sacks out of his in the first half of the year. Despite the fact that he has only 10 tackles it is by far the most productive he has ever been in his 6 year career.

I understand everyone wants Demarcus to be our war daddy but we really do need to get a grip. He has 0 sacks this year. He had 6.5 the year before. He had 5 the year before that. He is only getting older. If he comes back and gives us anything at all I will be happy.

Parsons is amazing.

Basically we have 1/3 of the pie with some other pieces that may or may not chip in. The 2007 Giants were incredible. We do not project out to be the 2007 Giants. Be happy that we have Parsons to keep us from being a dumpster fire like we have been for years. Let hope we get something out of Gregory and Demarcus moving forward. Let me smart about the future and realize that Gregory and Demarcus are not it.
