How does hiring Big Mike affect Prescott's contract?

Since Big Mike's resume is mostly about developing QB's, I think a lot of the interview centered around Prescott and his evaluation of him and assessment of his ceiling.

So, if they tag Prescott, that will be the tell about their outlook for his future as a Cowboy and hopefully Big Mike was totally candid and not telling the Joneses what they wanted to hear to get the job. Unless he truly feels he can deliver with Prescott.

I don't know how astute he is with the cap since Ted Thompson took care of all that and also don't know the clout he will have with talent kept and selected.

This was one of my preferred hires for one main reason, credibility. He's been there and won a ring and he has a track record that gets players' attention that have accomplished little. I wanted a D guy because that's the problem but if he hires the right DC and he has some clout with management, they can address that.

But, this hire was all about the QB, whether it's Prescott or another, Big Mike has had 2 of the top 10 QB's in the last 3 decades and both headed to the HOF. The other plus to hiring him is if they keep Moore, and I believe they should, he can learn more from Big Mike than Garrett. Don't know yet who the play calling will fall to so there is that.

The other thing to consider about Prescott's contract that kind of bends this thread is that the rumor about the stalemate was about the length of the contract. If that doesn't change, the tag may have more to do with that than Big Mike's confidence in his QB.

guess it would be up to mike and his input. while not sold 100% on dak, he's capable of getting it done and has shown year over year improvements. not sure what else we could ask given where he was drafted.

part of the "jones barameter" is how much he lets mike call the shots from here. this, to me, is a part of that.

I think Prescott is the guy, no matter what way you look at it. Both Jerry, Stephen, and Mike don't want to go hunting for a qb in the draft.

I think McCarthy is a hire to help Dak and allow him to grow.

I actually think Prescott's contract gets done soon. Prescott should've taken the initial deal because as the year went along, he somewhat regressed, lowering his value.

he gets a 1yr FT working interview, see how he can adapt to anew offense..most likely FT anyway but now Dak can learn and adapt or be gone...win win for fans and MM as he isnt STUCK with a QB under a huge contract..

The wringing of hands over Dak Prescott getting a big contract here is IMO, a ship that has already sailed. I believe the Jones cartel is sold on Dak, and I believe he gets a deal sometime in the next 3-4 months.

While Dak certainly had a couple of bad games this year, he actually made great strides and is a better QB than too many fans here believe. No, he’s not Pat Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers. But this idea that we just get rid of Dak and start over as if really good QBs can be picked from the easily picked QB tree is flat stupid.

IMO, Dak will be here at least 5 more years. Might as well hire a HC who can develop him to his max potential. All the screaming about not signing him is a waste of time.

It doesn't.

They could have hired John Madden and he'd still be getting $35+. It's just a matter of whether that happens this offseason or next.

McCarthy worked with 2 x HOF calibre QBs. Wasnt afraid to draft Rodgers when Farve started to age and wasnt affraid to get rid of Farve.

I think we're taking a QB of McCarthy's choice in the first round. Whether or not they bother franchising Dak for 1 year is the only decision that has to be made. The alternative is signing an interim QB who's worked in a system similar to McCarthy's in recent years.

Nice post. I embrace ones like this, because the avalanche of negativity gets SO TIRESOME. Between the supposed experts, the Eeyores, the realists, and the ABDs (anyone but Dallas), the number of people crying and whining and condemning and sarcastically lampooning is staggering. The enjoyment of the sport, the game, is rendered moot. ENDLESS debating over motives, agendas, how incompetent the FO is, blah blah blah, yada yada yada.

As much as I love sports and football and communication and analytical discourse, I’m still sorely tempted to take up coin collecting and D&D....

Sorry, but I’m perfectly happy to watch it unfold, to give McCarthy a shot. I’m intrigued to see what kind of team they put together. Change is GOOD!

Big Mike! Ha! CC, you have a gift!

Aaron Rodgers was drafted before McCarthy got there.

This just means McCarthy is going to watch Dak throwing duds in practice and be like wth is he doing on this team? And if our backups truly can't contend then they'll be gone as well.

Im curious what is said about the QB as Mike has time to compare. Probably something positive, but only mentioning leadership, good attitude, stuff along those lines. But his actions will tell everything.

Favre had announced his retirement.
Rodgers was given the reins.
Favre reneges, wants his old job back.
Mike McCarthy says, "Nope, we're prepared to go with Aaron."

Favre was offered the opportunity to be Aaron's backup. He re-retires.

No doubt part of the offer included accepting Dak as his QB.

However, he doesn't have a history or allegiance to him. He'll be objective.

That got him crossways with Rodgers and Farve. That will be good in our situation.

How Pass happy Mike and Dak fit in I have no idea?
The only cherry on the cake here is the above about him drafting a QB in the 1st round as there is no way that Dak can run a pass-happy offense...... jeez it was pretty much confirmed and verified this season!!!!

Regardless of Dak, we need to make sure we have a replacement ready. Draft in the mid rounds, and get a veteran backup who's familiar with Mike's O.

I’m intrigued by what comes next....
DC? OC? Still KM? How about ST? Columbo?
