How does Parnell compare?

Callahan's on record saying he's capable of starting in the NFL, for whatever that's worth.

I hope he starts next season (if we don't draft somebody for the job). Better than Free, just not the Beast people here are making him out to be.

I hope I'm wrong about the guy. I'm not a chest thumper. I have an opinion of the guy, but if he turns out to be the next Eric Williams I'll be happy about it, not upset about being wrong.

That said... I would still draft somebody if a worthy one is available. Would love to have Fisher but he may end up the #1 pick in the draft. Armstead in the 2nd is intriguing.

People always want to believe we have Superman on our roster, and he's a backup. Just that he hasn't "had his chance yet". It happens every year.

I remember when Torrin Tucker was supposed to be a gem RT. He was also big, quick, and had long arms. The dude was horrible.

Hey, I like Parnell. I'd rather him start than Doug Free that's for dang sure, but he's not your ideal starter. He's a solid backup.

It's funny to read people say he's more athletic than Doug Free. Doug Free's nickname coming out of college was "Freak" cuz of his athleticism. Obviously that athleticism doesn't translate to playing RT In the NFL.

Again, I'd rather have Parnell start than Free, but let's not act like Parnell is a prototype here.

There was never a day that I thought Torrin Tucker was a good player. Tucker was big, but didn't have great quickness. His 10-yard split was terrible and his 3-cone was the worst I've ever seen.

In my reviews I point out that Free is athletic and his quickness/athleticism are the only thing that give him a chance to make a decent block. His extreme lack of arm/hand strength requires that he get his body into perfect position in order to make a good block. Just envision an OT blocking with his hands tied behind his back. He would have to block with his shoulders and if he is big and very quick, he can keep his body between the pass-rusher and the QB for a little while. That's basically an exaggerated description of Doug Free.

That's pretty much how I feel about Parnell. I'll be thrilled if he's a capable starter for the balance of his current contract. I'm not counting on any more. But at least Callahan thinks the guy's capable of starting. That's something, anyway.

I don't really want to back Parnell up with a rookie, either, unless it's a guy like you say in Armstead who could kick inside for a year or so and help out there, too. I'd rather have a more experienced option available to step in long-term if something happens to one of our young OTs during the year.

Yes, the 3rd OT is a big question. A small school guy like Armstead is probably less NFL ready than Parnell. I thought that the Cowboys would sign a low to mid level Free Agent like Ryan Harris (Houston). Maybe they really like Weems. He was a Left Tackle at a top college program (Oregon) and appears to have the size and athleticism.
