I keep wondering what all the clients after Mark Texeira think about the job that Boras does for them. Boras used the Angels, Red Sox, Nationals, and Orioles to establish the value for Texiera and then at the last moment called hte Yankees to see if they would beat that price established and they did. But it also set off a chain that hurt his other clients.
If Texiera signs with anybody but the Yankees, the Yankees would have made a run at Manny Ramirez and probalby sign him for top dollar. If Ramierz signs with the Yankees, the REd Sox probably go harder after Derek Lowe and sign him at a higher contract that what the Mets are offering. That would leave the Mets, Brewers, Braves, Phillies to bid on his last client of Oliver Perez.
So other than Mark Texiera, are we to believe that RAmirez, LOwe, and Perez are all happy with how this played it? Boras' decisions and manipulations hurt their potential contracts. How can Boras represent Ramirez knowing that the decisions he makes for Texeria will adversely affect Mannys potential deal? Does the fiduciary responsibility with Manny get superceded because Texeira is higher in demand.
There is something wrong with the process. It is like a real estate agent representing the buyer and the seller in a transaction. He can't do both effectively. Yet, thru it all, Boras wheel keeps on turning.
As much as Alex Rodriquez deserves every arrow thrown his way, he realized that Boras was hurting what he wanted to do in opting out of his contract with the Yankees and so he fired him. Kudos to Alex. The only baseball player that put the Evil Scott Boras in his place.
