Well, McClay was brought in after the potential disaster but turned success of the 2013 draft, notably the first round.
The one where scouts were wanting Floyd but Rod didn't want him, which lead to visible confusion in the draft room.
He has done a better job of having the draft room closer to the same page and they have done a better job of landing quality first round picks outside of Taco. Alongside getting reasonable to good starters in day 2, with some gems in day 3. Its impossible to nail every draft or expect the players to then mature and want to be great themselves.
Imo they have allowed McClay to have a decent voice in the room, as he was the leading charge on drafting LVE for example. And that started early in the offseason. The Jones's still have a lot of say and they also have given more say to coaches over the years, for better or worse. But I feel overall since McClay was promoted they have bern drafting well enough to build a good team. It's not on him that the Jones's have pet cats or are penny pinchers in free agency or take a long *** time to re-sign guys off the stage hoarding cap space early on in FA.
