How far could Percy Harvin slide?

Is it possible that he could slide to the middle of the 2nd where we could reseanably trade up? I know he reportedly has some issues but I think he's better than Desean Jackson and would welcome his explosiveness.

I think I read a blurb that the Cowboys took Harvin off their board due to character issues, but I could be wrong on that.

If he slid all the way to 51 (fat chance) I would be fine taking him. I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to trade up though. On the right team, I do think he will become an impact player.

That may be true and might be wise. Lord knows we don't need any more knuckleheads on our team. That said I hope we try to add some serious speed to our team on both sides of the ball. I personally hope we draft Tate from UNC.

I think you're absolutely right on that.

I think Harvin was one of three prospects that the Cowboys had removed from their board.

Leave the problem children alone.
They're not worth it... no matter how far they fall.

Percy Harvin is Eric Metcalf all over again, accept with off field issues.

Harvin is the perfect slot WR IMO. His speed and agility is going to make him virtually impossible to match up with if you have any amount of talent on the outside. He's simply too fast for any 3rd CB to stay with and he's to quick to get a physical chuck on if he's in motion.

Imagin, if you will, Roy and Austin on the outside, the speed of Harvin in the slot, Witten at TE and Felix at RB.

How would you cover this? If you play a zone, the running game will eat you up and the short stuff will kill you all the way down the field. If you man up, there is not way a LB covers anybody and it creates a huge amount of pressure on your safeties. If you blitz, you better get there because it's six if you don't. That is a truely freightening lineup to have to defend.

He's risk reward big time. He's the one player that can take it to the house at any time in this draft. Crabtree is the more physical, more accomplished WR but Harvin is the guy that makes you worry all the time IMO.

I really like his talent. I just don't know if it's worth the risk. I don't know what's in his personal file. I know he's had issues in HS and at Florida but I don't know what else is there.

I agree that if used correctly he is going to cause some real problems on the field. I hear that the big off field concern is that he still runs with his old posse--and those hanger-ons include some serious troublemakers.
My guess is that Harvin will not have major troubles, but it is well worth investigating.

It's a bummer if he is indeed removed from our board. Harvey and Felix on the field at the same time would be a nightmare for teams. I think he will be phenomenal player.

Geez, look at those guns!

He supposedly tested positive for the chronic as recently as January. Yes I heard he was taken off the draft board. I still think if he falls to 51 (I doubt he would get past the Raiders round 2) and Dallas stays at 51 (I also doubt) I think he would get serious consideration.

Interesting question....You take a guy off the board because you have serious concerns about him.

But on the other hand, you have an all-world talent with potential to shore up two needs.

I would guess we would stay true to our board....if we put him in the box...then we pass.

Yeah, I agree. It is an interesting question and really, you actually get yourself a guy on the roster who can play some QB in a pinch as well. I don't know. He's the most electric player I've seen in this draft. If he were there, it would be real hard for me to look away from this guy. He's got a lot of talent. Injuries could be an issue as well though. I don't know. I do know this. I know that there is no way a DC can match up with the speed of both he and Jones, coming out of the backfield. That would be crazy.

I really couldn't fault Jerry if he took him. I couldn't fault him for straying from the board.

Two words for you Percy haters... Warren Sapp.. Tested positive for chronic at the U... Turned out pretty good... Most kids experiment with Weed.. Question is how he reacts when he gets busted... My guess is that this costs him alot of money and he turns it around...

It's much more than weed with this guy. Here's an excerpt from PFW:

Drew an automatic one-game suspension during 2004 high school football season after two unsportsmanlike penalties, one of which was excessive celebration. Suspended two days from school in the winter of ’04 for an altercation with a teacher/wrestling coach. Harvin claimed the incident was “blown out of proportion,” having arisen from a childish, student game played in the cafeteria. Charged with misdemeanor assault in April ’05 for his role in a street fight. Charges ultimately were dropped. Suspended two football games in ’05 following an on-field incident. Reportedly, Harvin was tackled late, taunted and spit on by opposing players. Enraged, Harvin struck a referee trying to restrain him and uttered a homosexual slur. According to Harvin, he wasn’t aware his actions were against an official. A basketball altercation in ’05 led to a premature end to his high school athletic career, as a verbal confrontation with an opposing player turned into a shoving match that caused the referees to declare the game over with time remaining. Soon after, Percy’s mother withdrew her son from the team, citing safety concerns. Ultimately was barred from athletic competition by the Virginia High School League.

Add the drug issues to this, and I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.

I have no idea how far Harvin will slide. Hopefully he will still be taken before we draft to shove everyone we want down one spot closer to us.

I think he falls to the mid-2nd round.

You have all that baggage, injury history, and the fact that he played in the spread option.

How many Florida WRs have hit it big?

He could change it, but I don't want any part of him. I'm glad he's off the Cowboys' board.
