Sorry to bug everyone but Jerry is thinking of current prices. Rookie contracts are 4 years. Below are 2015 dollars paid last draft:

4th pick in 2015: Amari Cooper, $14.8 million bonus/guaranteed, 22.7 million contract obligation (of course if we draft this high, we ain't going to cut the dude but over 4 years pay the 22.7 million .. no matter if he sucks we will stick with him (sorry but remember Claiborne .. ) all the rook contracts are 4 years ..

So you trade down .. to 8 or 9:

8 and 9 pick in 2015: Vic Beasley and Errck Flowers, 7.6 mil signing, 12.9 million contract obligation over the 4 years ....

15 pick in 2015: Melvin Gordon 6 mil bonus and 10.67 mil contract obligation over the 4 years.

Boys and girls, breathe a sign of relief because if Jerry should trade down to about the 30th pick like he did with Frederick it will be:

30 pick in 2015: Stephone Anthony, NO Saints, 3.9 mil bonus, 7.7 contract Jerry is on the hook for.

Dad gum not only do we draft down from 4 to 30, but Jerry saves $15 million .

15 mil contract money if we pick at No. 4 that is (sure to be paid - cause you don't want to cut a first-rounder before his 4 year contract comes up,

That 15 mil is against the cap ..

Jes sayin ..

I think a trade down to the 8-10 range could land us another pick and shave about 2.5 mil per year off the contract of the 1st rd pick. Shaq Lawson or Vernon Hargreaves would be good targets. IMO!

If Tunsil is there at 4 look for the Ravens to move up two spots to secure him. With the 6th pick of the draft the Dallas Cowboys select Ezekiel Elliott.

They aren't taking Elliott at 6 either.

I opened a thread trying to get conversation going about trading with Denver to 31. Nobody and I mean nobody like the idea. I like the idea considering our needs and the savings you mentioned. This draft is deep defensively but no one in the top five IMO is a lock.

The cost of a team trading up to 4 from the bottom of the draft becomes prohibitive especially if you half the value of future picks. An offer I would seriously consider from Denver includes their 1st and 2nd in 2017. There 31, 63, 94, 98, 136, 144 in this years draft. Is a starting point anyway. At half value it looks like a bad trade 1603 for our valve at 4 is 1800. But we could do ALOT with those picks. If you try to fleece them they will simply stay put and take Cook 31st overall.

If we did this I'd be cool with the trade down, not sure about Elliot, but how far is Lynch going to slide in the draft. I'd be cool picking up Lynch and another couple picks this year or next year. Is Lynch going to last the top 10, top 20? What do you guys think?

I would also like this deal as well as going from 4 to 6. I think if the main 2 guys are off the board then I'd like a quantity of picks. give us a lot of picks for this year and ammo if we need to trade for a higher pick next year. I like options. I believe that if Romo goes down, even with Goff, Wentz, Lynch as backups, the season is over. Garret can't adjust his system to fit a different player than Romo, not trying to bash Garret but if Romo goes down again a rookie isn't going to save us. I think Garret might have success with another qb not named Romo if on day 1 of the new season it's established Romo is not on the team due to retirement.

So next season at least, we live and die with Romo, I would like a lot of picks and hopefully a 2nd tier qb to draft like Lynch. Use the extra picks to stack the dline with bodies to rotate in and out and hopefully find a diamond in the rough.

Where Lynch ends up depends on when the 2 QB is taken. I think Cleveland would be wrong to take a first round guy when their OL is so bad but its Cleveland they don't make alot of good decisions. In my mind I see Ram taking Goff. Cleveland should take Tunsil. SD Ramsey. That means Wentz falls to us Goff or Wentz one of them SHOULD fall. At that point we should be able to trade back. Hopefully. I pray we don't take a QB in 1st. Lets say we do trade back and Goff/Wentz goes at 4. Then Lynch could go in mid 1st or he could fall all the way to Denver at 31.

Lynch is slotted generally around 15 but there is a chance he could drop to our pick at 34. Of course it only takes one GM to fall in love with a player and Lynch could be taken in the top ten.

If we trade down to 6 we should have Elliot, Treadwell and Lynch all available and I'm fine taking whichever one the team has highest on their draft board.

I love Elliott, but we just have too many defensive holes to fill. We need a edge rusher, DT and a CB to start. I like Howard as a RB in the 4th.

the problem with trading down to Denver is that you still are drafting MORE players in the 1-3 range and they have to get paid as well...plus, the difference between 4 and 31 in talent is staggering...I would never want to trade down that far unless it was in segments

Ex: Trade down to 15 to get Tenn's picks from StL; then, if Lynch is still there, you either take him or you trade back to Denver at that point and pick up more...I wouldn't want to do all of this, but it sure would get extra picks in the 2nd and 3rd round

Trade down with Tennessee to 15 for the two 2nd rounders they picked up from the Rams.

Tennesee still gets Tunsil at 4 and we get Laquon Treadwell, Shaq Lawson, or Paxton Lynch at 15, and then at 34, 43, and 45 we get some combination of Karl Joseph, Kevin Dodd, Derrick Henry, and Will Fuller.

I really only like trade downs if it makes sense with the available talent pool and your draft board.

The object is still to get the very best players that you can, and as many as you can that will help the most long and short term.

Careful getting too cute and missing out on great players

this is true, Jerry has a history of being "cute" on draft day
