How Good can Javante Williams be?

Javonte Williams can be good. We don't know if he even fit what Sean Payton wanted to do in Denver.

He is not going to be a true number one, Pro Bowl type runner here. But he can be the veteran in the rotation. He can get "dirty" yards between the tackles, catch a lot of passes out of the backfield, and protect the QB on third down.

Right now I see the Cowboys keeping three "true" RBs- Williams, Blue, and Mafah, plus Luepke at fullback. Williams will have a role here; I think Miles Sanders will struggle to make the team now.

I haven’t done a deep dive on Williams but I always considered him a mediocre talent at running back pre-injury. Post injury about the same.

He seems “good enough” to get the yards blocked (roughly equivalent to Dowdle). He’s not a needle mover as a player. Sanders is even more of JAG.

I would say that the success we have, if any, will be dependent on how good the rookies can be.

Has he ever been better than Rico last year? Rico wasn’t even used that much to start the year. Hopefully.

I just can't believe he has much if Sean Payton was that keen to get rid of him.

I think this is another case of Jerry taking a shot on an injured player hoping he'll return to form. And once again it won't happen.

Payton also brought in Perine who actually really ran strong for the Bengals the year prior. Then he drafted Audric Estime who Payton gushed about. Yet no one ran the ball well in Denver. I'm not saying I believe in Javonte but I can't ignore the fact everyone sucked in Denver despite their supposedly awesome run blocking.

No one can predict how well or how fast he recovers from his injury, so the question is unanswerable how good he can be. I don't expect him to be a starter when the season starts but he can become the starter during the season. It just depends on his dedication to rehab.

If he returns to full form, is it possible we found ourselves a back? I mean, he has a lot of potential especially playing with a guy like Blue.

The question is, how much is his injury still impacting him today?
I watched the film on Williams don't know much about him ,from what I saw I don't believe he would start over Blue and Mafah.I didn't see anything special in those high lights.I believe when the season starts It will be Blue starting and Mafah rotating in ,with Vaughn as the 3rd back and Luepke at full back.Blue and Mafah look impressive.

I mean, this is why I'm asking. Its all going to depend on how well he can recover.

I wonder if it was the injury in New Orleans or if there was something more to it, because that happens too.

Rico is better than all of these RBs since you mentioned him, whether, it's one aspect of playing RB or another I believe Rico is better overall than the whole Dallas stable.
If you're talking about a.guy you run all game. But if you have a committee, ours is much much better. And with the right guys, more reliable. Plus, this way allows us to focus on other positions.

We've had lots of top backs in Dallas. We've never had any success with the bell cow type. Not since Emmitt.

So, committee it is, which is fine by me. We have bigger worries than to hold out for only the obvious top backs in the draft or free agency

We can find a few jewels in the late rounds and still have a top run game.

LOL
No he's not.
What's with this Rico love....good lordy

I'm in the JAG camp, and don't believe for a second that Williams could somehow be better than Dowdle.

The RB group seems like (4):

Blue
Mafah
Luepke
One of Jerry's free agent JAGs

If both JAGs can play, Mafah will be kept over Luepke- which is sad because he was one of my cats.

No doubt Dowdle is better than all of them, with the exception of Blue. Blue might be special, but we'll see. Dowdle was a decent back.

RB1 right now is Williams.

Maybe it won't end up that way.
But Dallas coaching staff chose Williams over Dowdle, clearly

This Dowdle jizz-fest is pure comedy

How good can he be?

I’m thinking like a Jim Brown/Barry Sanders type of combo. The sky is the limit.

Unless the two rooks are complete disasters, just roll with them. They seem to complement each other perfectly actually. See what you have at the least.

Sanders won’t make the team, and Williams will start until around week five, about 2-3 games after average fans realize he isn’t the answer.

It’s nice that they added some lower end vet RB before the draft in case it didn’t go their way yet again, but it seems to have….and the same thing should have been done at DT/LB but oh well. Stopping the run isn’t a big deal.

Ya know you’d think a team that suddenly that running the ball is important would also understand that the opponent wants to do the same, and easily can.
From what I can see, we are shooting for Blue to be the main back. But Williams just isn't that good.

Javonte and Miles washed. Blue a 3rd down RB, and let's be real Wisner took over as the lead RB for Texas. Mafah hasn't even took a snap in the league, and is a 7th round pick. Like I said, Rico at this moment is better as an overall RB than the whole lot.

People who you have a different opinion than yourself you like to call delusional, ok, let's just see how this plays out. Delusional is hitching your wagon to 2 RBs who average 4.0 yards a carry or less, a career college RB2 who's a 5th round pick, and a 7th round pick, but I'm delusional? Lol. Say what you want, but Rico rushed for 1,000 yards behind a trash OL in the NFL. Let's see who runs for 1,000 behind a better OL and possibly a healthy QB1.
How many touch downs did Rico score?

The only reason was money. For the same cost, Dowdle would be here. There's really no debate about that.

It's not a "jizz-fest" (your thinking not mine) to objectively observe actual proven performance last season.

payton public came out and said they were disappointed he left. they were going to offer him a deal but cowboys pounced on him before they could get to him. i think they thought he’d be around until draft or after and was gone quick.
