have been on those 90's teams? Better that Aikman? I'm watching the NFL Networks 3hr special on the Boys and Roger was simply amazing. Almost got teary eyed when they started playing Anchors Away and showing Roger's highlights.

I wonder what it would be like if he were playing today, or if he would have been loved as much as he is, if everything he accomplished was done in todays society.

He lost two super bowls and threw 19 post season interceptions.

Do you know what the media would do to a guy with that resume? He would be treated like rex grossman..He is an all timer, but in todays week to week society, he would be crucified for that stuff

I think aikman is still underated. I have been capturing the 91 season and watching him in the first 6 or 7 games, I just forgot how good he was. He was deadly.

Different team, different era. I think Roger would have been a great QB in any era as his strength was his leadership more than his arm. Aikman was simply the most accurate QB I have ever seen in over 45 years of watching football.

Staubach's numbers would look a whole lot better playing in the passer-friendly NFL of the 90s so don't try to compare his numbers from the 70s with those of the more recent QBs. He had a very low INT% when compared with other QBs of his era. Some of the top QBs back then threw more INTs than TDs over their careers. Rogers numbers were outstanding for his time and would be a lot better if he were playing now.

You saw how much an average player like Pat Tillman was loved and respected for enlisting(not even counting the affection for after he was killed).
Imagine if a Heisman Trophy winner like Roger did the same thing but was able to continue his playing career.
He would bigger than the Beatles.

Roger is such a unique character. I don't really know any football fans who grew up watching him that don't love him. And the guy literally has no skeletons in his closet.

guys. I am not shooting him down in any way.

I knew that would be the response I would get.

I am saying in todays society, they would only highlight the negative, like they do with everyone, like they did with elway before he finished up.

I am not comparing staubach the player from the 70s to todays players, comparing society and the nfl and the media coverage.

I remember hearing talk of Bush II considering him for Secretary of the Navy.

Staubach's closest contemporary manifestation was John Elway, they were virtually the same, on the field at least.

Staubach could also become the Governor of Texas at the drop of a hat if he so chose, perhaps even a Senator.

I hope Roger never enters politics. He seems to have too much integrity to join that crowd

so...

Staubach>The Beatles>Jesus

except for Rog being smart enough to not admit it.

Anybody else old enough to remember when Phylis George(I think) interviewed Roger and he said he liked sex. With his wife. It seemed like it caused a minor stir at the time.

Roger is/was one of those guys who succeeds at everything he did. I have no doubt he would be a premier QB in the league...especially in today's watered down league.

Staubach was Aikman with mobility. His post season interceptions can in part be attributed to the fact that they were in the playoffs every year and often deep into the playoffs.

Staubach also played in an era where the running game was emphasized more and the WR's could be mugged all over the field so the stats are skewed with less td's and passing yardage. Staubach would have been great in any era.

I believe he's the same height as Romo (6'2"), so he would be considered "small" by today's standards. That said, he would still succeed.

good god man. I know.

I put those numbers out there, to show what the media would say about him today, highlighting the negatives.

Geez. I thought I already emphasized that.

I will say it for a third time now, he is an all timer..

I agree with everything except for the first sentence. Aikman was a better pure passer - clearly more accurate. Staubach was more streaky (in comparision to Aikman, who was remarkably consistent).

I see why you might think that, but I don't think the assumption is correct.

Brett Favre is treated as if a saint by the media today.

Staubach had more success and played with far more discipline than Brett Favre. And Favre, at his best, was only about 65% of the QB that Staubach was.
