We certainly got great value today and yesterday. According to Goose's board (which is well-respected) Dez was a top 10 player and Lee was #38. We came into the draft with the 27th and 59th picks. We got those players at 24 and 55. We stayed true to our board and drafted two future starters with Pro Bowl potential. That's excellent quality when you consider where we were drafting. Those would have been very good picks if we picked in the top 10 of rounds 1 and 2.

Having said all of that, it's certainly a little disappointing to watch a second year go by and see all the top safeties and offensive linemen go to other teams. I just wanted one of each between this and last year's early picks. I guess you can't have it all, but the draft isn't over and we've been pretty good at finding late-round gems. I just hope Jerry's plan for OL depth is a good one. I also hope we get Atogwe.

No matter how mixed your feelings may be about our first two picks, know that we didn't reach and grabbed two excellent football players. That's what good teams do.

Agree with the first paragraph. I just don't think we were ever in a position to get a S or OL with our top picks given where we were drafting and the value of those positions.

JJ said yesterday that they had a plan for the OL.

It could be a player for player type trade, for example (that's just me speculating). Whatever it is, they seem to be clear in their mind what they want to do.

Agreed...I almost mentally put Brandon Williams and Brewster in there as rookies as well. I think Hodge is now on the bubble unfortunately.

Bingo! :hammer: :post: You always go by the board, and you trust your scouts! The goose is very good at putting his mock drafts and his top 100 players. Goose calls every gms, head scouts and coaches to get their opinions on players etc... Then he puts his boards together.

We got 2 very good players in the top 40. But we had the 24th and 59th pick, yet we got 2 players in top 40. That is very good. On my board, I had Dez 11th and Sean Lee 42nd.

So, again, board wise and trusting your scouts the cowboys had a very good draft, whether or not it filled needs.

Now,I am thinking jerry plans to sign the safety O........ from the rams when he is released in June. Jerry also may have his sights on Alan Fanaeca, reports are that the jets plan to release Alan after the draft. Also, no one has signed Flozell, we might bring back Flozell after the draft with a cheaper price too, while also signing greg ellis for a cheaper price too.

Just a hunch but I think that part of the plan Jerry has in motion or thought.
Now can Fanaeca play like he used to, no, he is getting old,but he would be a very good backup for L Davis and Kosier, and he could play on obvious 3rd and short running plays or big 4th down short running plays.

Good, we went by the board, how many boards have won SB's?

Look, our Oline is going to be putrid if not 3, if not 2, BUT if one of our Oline goes down. We are the only team that tries real hard to make this a reality so that when, NOT IF, when an oline man goes down, we are tanking.

How about saftey? I dont know, we're not getting a ball hawk or someone who floats to the ball to make a play. We very well could be getting the same non qb attacking defense we WERENT promised.

You had a chance to go out and get the quality needs you have to get to make this team better and AGAIN, we played with a draft that could solve some problems.

Maddening about this draft. Last draft i was okay, we threw a net out and got some players, depth possibly, but players, this was the draft to get 1 or 2 guys and Just make some damn plays and protect Romo.

Heres how i see it, one injury on the Oline and lots of fans are going to be screaming bloody murder.

Thanks for the "Post of The Day" comment Joe. Enjoyed your TV clip. However, I won't ask for a link ;)

Atogwe plus some FA OL depth would be great. I'd love to see Flo come back, but it's probably a long shot. Hopefully a guy like Travis Bright turns into something and Brewster becomes what we hope.

You're right about the OL depth. It scares the **** out of me. I'm on record as wanting 3-4 OL selected. And was hoping for one on each day of the draft. Well, we're down to three day 3 picks.

With all that said, no one can deny the value of our selections. This is how great teams are built.

I can only hope we get some OL help on day three, UDFA and perhaps a veteran singing or two.

The first sentence is a little ridiculous, but I share your concern. Safety and OL are big issues. In '08 we could not fill the void left by Kosier's injury and the Vikings loss last year was directly related to poor play by our injured OL. The line has even less depth without Flo unless Brewster really steps up to a point where he is at least as good as Adams (not likely). I hope we fill those holes in the coming days/weeks.

I agree with this but I am just so scared of us having these problems again for next year.

Remember last season right after the draft when everyone was throwin a fit about not taking lots of linemen, and how we have absolulely NO depth anywhere on the team, and if just one person gets hurt its season over? Yeah, RW11 got hurt, Austin stepped in and became a star. Columbo went down, and Doug Free was inserted and offense didnt miss a beat, it actually got a little more dynamic with some of the unusual things Free can do athletically. The bottom line is, we have a coaching staff that sees these players every single day, gets to watch the "all 22" film that we as fans don't have the priveledge of seeing. These coaches have been absolutely phenomenal at recognizing talent. The fact that you could make an argument about us having the best roster in the NFL backs that fact up. It doesn't matter what YOU think of players here, because you don't have anywhere even remotely close to the amount of experience, knowledge, or personal acccess to these guys to formulate opinions on them. Trust the coaching/scouting staff, it'll be a lot easier on your mental health I promise.

You are just either showing your age, or lack of Cowboys history, because all you had to see was the Minnesota game to understand what i am talking about. Yes, since HH has returned to Dallas the main line is good, BUT depth is still a problem and yes our scouts havent been helpful in that manner.

You can see the line was not ready for the abuse Fraizer was going to throw at them immediately because unlike the Cowboys of the Wade Era, once their is blood in the water, they go after it.

The Giants lost an oline man and didnt miss a beat, Free worked the RT position for a few weeks and wasnt ready for the other side in a mere heartbeat. Yes he was game ready, but both sides are totally different and while he did good, we all saw that he wasnt ready for the LT position yet.

Witten did have that whiff and should have recognized it, but we just werent ready for a team that was ready to blitz all day every play.

I was hoping for a safety and some OL, but I'll wait and see. The coaches and scouts know a lot more about the team than I do.

Very well said.

OL take time to be ready to play in NFL unless we are picking them in the top 10. So we are screwed regardless if an OL has an injury. The OL we draft are not going to be ready until next year anyway. Have to hope that the bench is strong enough to hold until the started returns and trush JJ to come up with his plan on OL

You're showing your revisionist history. Go back and watch that game, as I have at least 3 times. The pressure was coming from the offensive right side, it was Ray Edwards abusing Marc Columbo that was causing all the problems. Yes, Free lost a few of his one on one battles against....you know...the hands down best pass rusher in the NFL right now. Show me one game of any player that went up one on one against Allen more than 10 times in a game and didn't lose the battle at least one. Just one...you can't.

Also, that was just one game, a game in which NOTHING was going right for this team, and depth or lack thereof had nothing to with it. You say our scouts have done thier job poorly. Felix Jones, Mike Jenkins, Tashard Choice, Marcus Spears, Demarcus Ware, Chris Canty, Bradie James, Anthony Spencer, Jay Ratliff, Marion Barber, Miles Austin, Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Andre Gurode and Doug Free all say hi.
