How is Josh Ball doing?

I'm not expecting much but a project there. Doubt he'll get meaningful minutes unless injuries strike us yet again.

Haven't read much about how he has performed in Camp. But, I believe I read in a Tweet that he had gotten injured. Nothing serious I don't think.

He has a checkered past, but the guy has some talent. Hopefully he can develop into at minimum a reliable swing tackle, and the ceiling could be starting LT down the line. We shall see.

Is this the guy who beat up his girlfriend, allegedly, that we drafted?

To answer the OP’s question. On one of the cowboys.com podcasts. They have mentioned that he looks ok so far. But hasn’t really stood out one way or another so far.

I think that’s reasonable considering he is a rookie. I would imagine he makes the team unless he looks like absolute crap.

Have not heard much about anyone on the OL, other than a few. The usuals.

Battlegrounds: New Swing Tackle Emerging?

July 31 – Swing Tackle
Halfway through the team's time in Oxnard, the rotation and outlook behind Tyron Smith at the offensive tackle spot continues to be a mystery. Saturday's practice provided a little more clarity as Ty Nsehke, maybe the offseason favorite to win the swing tackle job, did not practice and allowed for multiple players to get useful reps.

The trio of Terence Steele, Brandon Knight, and Josh Ball shared most of the reps at left tackle in the absence of both Smith and Nsehke. Steele and Knight reunited with members of the line that they were thrown into the rotation with in 2020, like Connor Williams, Tyler Biadasz, and Zack Martin.

Most of the early practice reps saw Steele with the first team during the teams 'mojo moments,' where he was arguably the most successful against Randy Gregory's pass rush out of the rotation of linemen. Additionally, later in the team period when Knight and Ball took their snaps at left tackle, Steele was the only one to see significant time on the right side as well. All were crucial snaps for both reserves who are currently aiming to win the swing tackle spot over Nsehke this preseason.

Along with backup center, i'm still quite worried about the swing backup tackle role.

i think we are gonna injuries with the starters there ..and i think we're gonna have issues with backup reserves,
and i'm worried that we haven't did enuff to prepare for such a crisis.

if the regular season games started tomorrow and Tyron or Collins were not healthy enuff to go,.. whose becomes our primary swing as well
and how comfortable should we feel ?

Based on his track record and how he played when asked to start last year, Nsekhe is a more than capable swing. Our only worry is if this is the year he falls to father time or not.

If he does we have to hope Ball is capable.

Good thing is Ball supposedly fits the mold with athleticism,..
bad thing is his rookiness, vast inexperience and lack of NFL ready techniques, need for NFL level strength program.

=- Providing Josh Ball stays on the str8 and narrow off field and keeps working at his art in offseason, Ball may probably a year away from NFL readiness.
But it's so important that he gets the camp and preseason experience...

- Having to depend upon a 36+ yr Nsekhe, who as he gets that more older, could be that much more susecptible to injury and then we're down to
an physically limited converted OG (whose spending camp as a OG) and a returned 2nd yr undrafted guy who struggled with 9 to 11 sacks as a
rookie starter.

- Me frankly would have liked to seen Conner Williams a very fine college OT, with his idea athleticism, having swing tackle reps in this camp
...rather than kicking himself inside at center, a position he's never played in either college or NFL.

- ust as i'd like to know why OL coach Joe Philibin does not like/want McGovern who has some college snaps as a center, rather than having him
purely at OG. Sorry but i tend to wonder how the reserves would have been operating in works if ex-OL Marc Columbo was still here.

Knight played well last year and wasn’t costing us games. We can get by with him. I think that’s proven.

Nsekhe is a tough old bulldog, as tough as they come,, your going to really like having him here.

We'll probably see Josh Ball in when they play the Steelers this week. He's just the kind of young talent that they need to see in action for that kind of exhibition game.
