He is probably one and done with us, no?

I would think that he will have a head coaching opportunity next year.

Well, if he leaves then it means we have a great defense so.... two ways to look at it

Yeah, let's get to that level first and then we can deal with it.

Ryan isn't going to take any position -- both his brother and Garrett will likely be in his ear about waiting for the best opportunity. Jerry isn't going to let financials be the issue either. Rob's personality ... it might not play well in certain places. My bet is somewhere like New Orleans would be a great fit in a few years

Somebody else here pointed out that he hadn't yet really achieved anything that would vault him into HC contention yet. Not sure that one big year would vault him into consideration, but a there does seem to be a premium on snatching hot, yet relatively inexperienced coordinators before someone else does. :)

Really? Head Coach? Was he a head-coaching candidate anywhere this year?

Maybe we are a tad premature building this guy up to be the next Dom Capers or Dick Lebeau.... oh what's that?.... he is already better than either of those two slugs. Got it. Thanks.

So, same approach as retaing Garrett all these years. I will take it.

Yes, that is the theme.

Right now my only concern is getting a FULL season out of him for 2011. The rest will take care of itself, or rather, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

I doubt that Ryan will be interviewing for the head coaching position of the following teams for the these teams in the next five or more years:

Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, New York Giants, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers & Tennessee Titans

The same goes for the next group of teams for the next three-to-four years regardless of how their seasons end in 2011:

Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers & Washington Commanders

That leaves the next six teams which I do not think will be interviewing next season, but may be seeking a replacement like Ryan by 2013:

Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders & San Diego Chargers

If we finish in the top 3 in defense, along with the defense winning a couple games for us, yep, no doubt he'll be gone. There will be so much buzz about the turnaround somebody will give him a shot.

We have a ton of talent on this defense waiting to blow up, it's gonna happen.:)

Rob Ryan brought in Matt Eberflus to be his replacement. I am sure of that from his quotes about him being a rising star, etc.

In his press conference he said that Matt Eberflus was his right hand man so that might be the replacement if Rob leaves, But again, we're getting ahead of ourselves here. Let's start keeping the opposing team out of the end zone more often and then we can worry about this.

Hard to say....proving that he can coach a top defense and take a struggling one up near the top is a long ways from saying he can be head coach of an NFL football team. Additionally, I think his brother's act is growing old, even on Jets fans, who love his team but are sick of predictions and guarantees already...empty words that seem a little stupid to keep repeating.

I'm not sure there are a lot of NFL owners who would want another Ryan as head coach of their team. Rob's look (hair, beard, belly) can work for a DC, but I don't see him getting a head coaching job anytime soon...I think he'll be here for at least 3 years.

I think some may be too caught up in his name. Rob hasn't accomplished much yet except to help some bad defenses get a little better. He hasn't coached top defenses yet and he looks like a walking heart attack returning from a Greatful Dead concert.
