How long has it been?

I missed the pro bowl. well, I can't really say "missed" cause my apathy was raging in its general direction. regular NFL games have gone soft enough as it is without having to show off said softness by the "best of the best". so ok, I didn't miss the pro bowl. at all.

superbowl? honestly, is that "this" weekend or next? I've lost tracked of when they play it, how long they choose to milk it, and how much commercial time they can sell for something that no freaking commercial can even say what it's spending millions of dollars on.

"the big game".

now that I think about it, the arrogance of the NFL to coin "super bowl" and make it illegal for the rest of the world to use - even if only in reference to "the big game". every commercial out there will spend a million dollars (I almost had that much once....once) and can't even say "super bowl".

but how long has it been since the cowboys played? I hate to say I've already begun my offseason and losing interest is just taking over. I don't "mean" to do it. I just don't care. new England vs. seattle is the old vs. the new and next up are rumors of the NFL setting it up. did they? doubt it but if they did, I just don't care.

that should have been us. maybe. perhaps. who knows anymore.

to me, I suppose, this is the 2nd time a Dez "non-catch" broke my heart. Neither his fault, both just as heart wrenching. the TD against the giants I believe as seconds wound down to seal the victory, until it was reviewed and found his back heel stepped on the line, out of bounds.

it was plain as day, unfortunately. couldn't be argued but that didn't stop the 180* emotional roller coaster of going from one of our best moments in history to a huge loss. ditto "the catch" that never was. one minute you let it all fly and you're on top of the world.

the next you're packing up stale popcorn, giving dirty looks to the last of the mini sausages in some watery bbq sauce, and mad you're out of beer. I did care. maybe too much.

I say I don't care but I also have a very bad memory, unlike many in here. I can't recall a given play on game 4 of 2012 that turned the game around. it could be all the drinking done in those years, or that I just don't remember those things like other people do. I say I don't care but maybe I just don't remember. or I only remember the ones I love the most, or that hurt the most and the rest is grayspace.

to be honest, I've long since grown tired of the posturing and whining and law suits that followed. the week before a call fell our way, this week, it didn't. those who cry foul when it didn't seem to have some really short memories, or just selective. this doesn't mean I hate it when a call goes against us. I hate it just as much as anyone else but apparently for just not as long. nothing will change it and nothing can make it right.

it's over. I moved on. i'll remember the play, i'll remember the destroyed feeling, and i'll smile as just another cowboys memory and move on. and no I'm not going to explain to any hater why I smiled about it so don't ask.

that moves us on to murray. those who feel he can be replaced with a draft pick or are already off and playing madden with his future, there are times I wish a MUTE button would work online. he was the leader in rushing this year. for the 5+ years before that just about everyone in here was crying out in agony to run more and utilize murray. we do. we do well in doing so.

fire the money grubbing bum. he can be replaced. rb's are a dime a dozen in the nfl.

for some fans, it would seem, once you succeed, anyone could have done it. nevermind we've never made it this far in 20 years, anyone could have set the NFL record in any given year we've been around since then cause hey, it's that easy. *some fans* quickly forget what it took to get to the success we have now and seem to enjoy using the players as bubble gum trading cards and not viable pieces to a successful team.

all that said, i *do* want murray back, but the simple fact of the matter is he has to make the money he can. i hope jones can work out a deal he's happy with and i hope it's one the cowboys won't regret also. very new ground i walk on here, huh? i don't want to break up the band but sometimes the band members have different things in mind and i respect that. if we can work it out I'd love for him to stay. if he is able to get more money playing for another team *and* that's what he chooses to do, take care, demarco. thank you for being a cowboy and a huge part of one hell of a season we've not seen in a long time.

but much of this does seem long ago by now. the catch. the non-catch. all the fighting and debating over the next few years that will continue on long past I'm tossed out in the wind. there was a time i loved being a part of all those debates. the "what if's" and "should we" scenarios. i ate that up like a fat kid eating fried foods at the state fair.

that too, seems so long ago.

I'm not really looking forward to the off season, mostly because of some of the outlandish things people do during football hibernation season. you play madden enough you come up with wild ideas and share them with us to go "what the hell was he drinking just before bed?" i suppose i'll go into my usual hiatus and show up every now and then to chime in and likely upset someone.

we've got a fantastic base of an OL. we've got a 2-3 year window, perhaps, of romo. we've got 40% of the fans/media/bored a-holes out there saying "ROMO'S BACK PROBLEMS!!!" ad nauseam as if they're on to something no one else in the NFL knew about. i can't recall how many times we heard that romo would NEVER make it through the year and every wince he had, every off pass, every sack he took, i'll be watching you.

had to do that, but every sign of weakness romo may have showed there are some that tied it directly to his back for no other reason than to say I'M RIGHT I'M RIGHT ROMO'S BACK SUCKS!!! great. you're right. now have a helping back of shut up cause he made it through, he doesn't need surgery and a running game complimented him to where he had his best season as well as demarco.

one never should have had that year, the other, ditto and now he's easy to replace. do those who feel that way really not remember back to long ago how we suffered through the lack of success because of the line, the rb, and a host of other things that come into play we don't have to worry about today. people forget those times and at times, let success get too easy.

it's been a long long time since we've been in this position and to me it's kinda like standing on the of greatness or failure and it won't take too much to push us either way. it's been awhile since we as fans knew how to handle success and we seem to be falling over ourselves with the same suggestions and promises of "the fan" knowing more than a million dollar scouting team. it's so hard to believe we've not been "successful" in around 20 years and i simply don't want to wait that long again.

if we can find a way to keep this team together I'm all for that. I'm not into "how will we manage cap hell???" chicken littles cause if it wasn't that causing their panties to crawl around, it would be something else. some people just live in a panic and invent things to panic about. the one thing jones has always been good at is finding a way to keep the players that matter.

those players are always up for question. :)

but it does seem like it's been awhile already since the season ended. it's going to be a long long while before the next one begins. should be one of the more interesting off seasons in quite some time and yea, been awhile since we could say that.

I'm pretty sure I won't get over the Dez catch. The week before we got a call we should have gotten.
I will say it was controversial but it was rules correctly by the ref 10 feet from the play.

Most Cowboys fans want Murray back. I will leave it up to our staff and trust their judgement either way.
The drop off in production the year after a back has as many carries as he did is well documented. I believe there is a correlation. My personal feeling is all Inailed in the decision know this and he won't be offered much more than the 4 million he was offered.

Lastly I drink vast amounts of beer and I don't forget anything. Op is lucky.

I didn't read the entire post, but it was Dez's fingertips that landed out of bounds against the Giants, not his heel. Unless you are talking about a different game?

toldja. it's been awhile and yes, it was his fingertips. :)

as for those who don't wanna read it, hell, then don't. not that big a deal.

I remember the good old days long ago (circa. last preseason/training camp) when a poster (can't remember his/her username) told the forum how he/she observed Romo on NFL Network and described Romo's physical condition as decrepit. Basically, the poster was saying a quadriplegic looked better than Romo and he/she was quite adament about his/her conclusion.

Yep. Those were the good old days. It's been weeks since the overturned call and I still cannot fathom how the heck Stephen Hawking threw that fantastic pass...

"How long has it been?"

All I know is, for the first time in at least 30 years, I will not be watching the Super Bowl.

Can't believe I've been even logging onto this site--must be hope for next year.
Because of our last game and how that went down, my indifference toward the SB really is at an all-time low.

Always enjoy your incoherent ramblings Ice :p jk

But seriously I did enjoy it.

You are a better man than me if you can get over the Dez catch. I still can't.

I also agree I definitely want Murray back, I just don't want the Cowboys to be dumb about it.

As far as Romo, he has made a career of shutting people up. They will have to cart him off the field before he calls it quits. I thought he would be just fine this season, he even exceeded my expectations. That being said he is one hit away from being done, but that can be said about any player in the league, so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm going to enjoy Tony Romo while we still can, and support him 100%.

As far as the off season. Yeah it started for me too the day after the game, and you are right it feels like so long ago. I have zero interest in the super bowl. It will be an exciting off season for the Cowboys, to try and find all those pieces to build a champion. I just know I wasn't ready for the season to end, I just wanted them to go back out there and kick some ***. It will be some long months until August, and I'm just ready for them to get back out there.

I enjoyed this season immensely and was proud of the Cowboys.

DE - you got me. but yea, I'm amazed romo has both legs, can walk, and isn't curled up in a pre-natal fetal position and no, I'm not even sure what that is.

redvolution - close enough. :)

dogberry - thank you! just don't post that much these days but that's just on me. appreciate it.

hos - I have no idea if it showed the impact I was after but I was also sure some people would appreciate it, others wouldn't. just like the rest of life. :) thanks man.

dandydon - I refuse. unless some editors capitalize for me, it ain't gonna happen. even my resume has a disclaimer of "edited by ee Cummings".

cowboyeric8 - no need to kid around. they are incoherent ramblings. I didn't spent a ton of time on research, it's just how I feel and lobbed into here. in something like this I have a running theme and just go in and out of misc happenings through the year and tie it into my "theme". freelance writing. some people like it, some... :)

Well, iceberg...I liked reading your post and agree with all of it.

But, for me...I have been a Cowboy fan since their inception and right now I feel like someone stole my wife, money and anything else valuable that I own. And, the thief is the NFL!

I did not watch the probowl and will not watch the Superbowl because right now I just don't give a freaking damn about this game right now, and it's been a long time since I said that!

I can handle the losses, I can savor the wins, and after each loss or win, seconds later, I am over it. But, not this time. The NFL told all Cowboy fans world wide to bend over and grab their ankles and take it like a man in prison.

I never thought I would have this feeling over a game. But when something like this happens with the non-catch, it's hard to overcome for me and that makes me feel weird because that has never happened to me before. I'm right now at the point that I don't give a damn about this game! I guess I just need to bend over and grab my ankles so the NFL can screw me, just like they did to millions of Dallas Cowboy fans.

However....after the Superbowl is over I can take some comfort knowing that this team is in for the long haul and is on the right track. But for this season, thank you NFL for phucking over the Cowboys, good job!

later
