I understand its a new scheme and a handful of new players. I think its gonna take a while. They have looked putrid and lost so far. An offense can pick anything they wanna do. Rob Ryan is a good coach but he doesnt have much to work with talent wise overall. If he puts out even a decent defense I will be a firm believer in him. We will add talent to the defense obviously,maybe...

I'm thinking they'll start to look much better by the end of the first month of the season. I'm thinking by midseason they'll really be starting to improve and show some real promise.

I don't know, lets ask Dr Scholls.

If Rob Ryan can get this group of sad sacks to play solid defense by midseason then he should be considered a defensive guru.

One thing I remember from last year is the defensive players complaining that Wade had them thinking too much and they were making too many mental mistakes. Wade simplified the scheme with the hope that the players, once unleashed from the mental aspect of the defense, would win their one-on-one battles. We all know how that turned out.

Part of me thinks that there are too many mental midgets on defense and that they will never be successful in a Ryan defense. The hopeful side of me, however, thinks that the guy just might be a great DC and will get positive results.

It's never going to happen unless we get a huge fat slob at NT and move Jay Ratliff to DE, sign Nnamdi Asomugha, and cut Bradie James, Keith Brooking, Terence Newman, and Sean Lee because that guy's a bust.

Best thing I have ever read, ever.

Ever I tell you.

I think the game after the bye week will be a good time to judge where the defense is headed.

Think that goes back to how the team practiced under Wade and the way he ran the team as many of us predicted that he was a mediocre head coach and things would slowly degraded over time under him.

Hard to implement things when you do not do enough repetition to get it down correctly.

to be respectable, at least 8 games. to be good at least one year.

Probably til the bye week. However, the first month or so of our schedule is weak other than the Jets. And the Jets don't have much of an offense, so.... I'm not worried. In Rob I trust. Remember, he led a bunch of nobodies in Cleveland last year that took down Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

Rob is doing a lot of experimenting with personnel right now, we'll look really good right out of the gate and great by game 4.

People really under-estimate the mis-used talent we have, and have had, on this team.

I think it'll really start to click after the bye. There's only so much you can do in a month. I'm not naive enough to think a complex NFL defensive scheme is going to be fully implemented in 4 weeks.

That's what I am counting on this season. As I said, the hopeful side of me thinks Ryan is the real deal and will have this defense playing well by midseason. ;)

Very good points:)

what really good offenses will we meet early on? That is a key. The Jets offense is not all that.

Yea that isnt overwhelming however after bye come some doozies

Detroit is showing something; they might actually be the best Offense we will run up against early on.
