How many linebackers do we need/will we keep on the roster this year?

We have a few other LB's on the roster but they look like camp bodies. How many more do we need?

Rocky Boiman - Special teamer
Kalen Thorton - Not proven due to injuries
Al Singleton - Aging, may be susceptible to injury like last year

Scott Shanle - steady backup.

I'd guess at least another three would see the Cowboys through training camp.

At least two to replace Shanle, Thornton, or Fowler.

Singleton probably stays to help that SOLB spot out for part of the season until the rookie gets up to speed.

Based upon his progression prior to his injury, I think Thornton will be on the roster and make a solid contribution to the team.

Wasn't Parcells moderately happy with Thornton's progress before he was injured? I think we keep him. Plus, he may be the second best natural pass rusher we have at LB.

Singleton will make the cut, he's experienced and can be a solid starter.

Burnett was a 2nd rounder last year. Its safe to say he will not be cut.

Ditto on Demarcus.

Akin was just signed, Bradie is a starter, they will be on the roster.

Boiman was signed as a backup/special teams player. He makes the cut.

Thats 3 ILB (James, Boiman, Ayodele) and 4 OLB (Burnett, Singleton, Thornton, and Ware)

I am guessing Fowler or Shanle....one will be let go. And if we draft an OLB, maybe we don't keep an extra ILB. Burnett played some ILB in college. Singleton might be able to play some ILB in a pinch.

I think we kept 9 last year (Ware/Dat/James/Singleton with Oboguo(sp?)/Fowler/Shane/Burnett/Fujita) so I'm assuming we keep same number this year.

We can pen in Ware/Ayodele/James/Singleton as probably starters w/Boiman as main ILB backup/ST. Depending on how good Thornton turns out to be, how soon Burnett is healthy & which OLB we draft, we might also draft an ILB on 2nd day. BTW: I expect Singleton to start this year but will alternate with newly drafted OLB. If Carpenter drafted, it possibly he could start by mid season. Depending on rookie's development, this probably Singleton last year with the Cowboys.
