How Many People Would Do This...

Ok, I'm a victim of the recent Ice Storm here in Oklahoma...

My question is, how many of you would either stick without satellite TV for the duration of the "thaw out" or would you attempt to climb your icy ladder and on to your icy roof just to clear the satellite?

I uh,,,chose option 2.

I first knocked the ice off the ladder, then knocked out spots on the shingles so I could stand. Then I slowly went to the top, had to straddle the peak of the roof then slide over about 6-8 feet and then whack at the antenna. I did notice cars slowly driving by possibly waiting for a Youtube moment.

After I was done, I somehow made it down safely. Next time? I'll probably not go up again.

As a fellow Oklahomite I chose option 1. Luckily it only lasted about an hour

Really? Everything here has been completely coated in 1/4-1/2 of ice where I live and it hasn't gone away. The roads never got bad. I would have had to wait until Monday before my dish would have thawed a bit.

Depends how tall your roof is.

Not too bad. Just the average single story height. It's not like I would have killed myself or anything unless I landed on my head on the driveway.

Oh my god I would absolutely clear off the satellite. Being stuck in my house even with TV is torturous, being alone with my thoughts, I'd probably murder somebody

I wouldn't do it at my house. The roof pitch is too high, and as long as I had Internet I would be okay. Ten years ago I probably would have risked life and limb to thaw out the dish. Now, I know I'm mortal so I don't do things like that anymore.

I had thought about trying to break up the ice with my telescopic tree limb saw but with the thickness of the ice, I had to actually be up there. The ice storm is over but the winds pick up today which means more issues since the ice hasn't gone anywhere and it'll be 32 degrees and mostly cloudy.
