How much cap space can we realistically create?

Certainly, someone will eventually show up and claim we can create $70MM in cap space by dumping all these guys, restructuring those guys, etc.

It sounds great in theory but we all know it's unlikely.

Assuming Lawrence gets tagged for like $16MM and Irving gets tendered for like $3MM, how much space can we realistically have to spend on some of our remaining guys and outside FAs?

I do realize it's tough to pinpoint because we don't know what the FO will do. For example, I see no way they cut Dez, but technically they could cut him.

Personally I do cut Dez and save the eight mill, as would I with Witten and OScan....but realistically only Dez and OScan are possibilities which would save 9m.

Not sure about restructures.

Don’t forget about Martin Hitchens and Cooper

Martin likely lowers his cap hit with a new deal. He's a $9.3MM cap hit next year as is. If you look at Zeitler's deal, his first year cap number was around $8.4MM so the Cowboys could structure it that way and push money back a bit.

Just depends on who you are willing to part with. We can save a lot of money cutting guys. Dez, Witten, Crawford, Scandrick and Mayowa all come to mind. A couple would be immediate cuts and a couple would be June 1st cuts to manage the dead money. THis article says Dallas can create about 43m which I assume would be added to our current space. We would miss Crawford's flexibility and I am not sure how we would replace Dez unless we went first round WR.

Restructure
Tyron
Lee
Fred

June 1st cut Dez

Result = 52M in cap space.

That would 39M if they keep Dez.

Martin's new contract will lower his cap hit.

Other ways to create space:
Cut Witten 6.5M

Cut Crawford 6M

Cut Scandrick 3M

you get Jarvis Landry, Sammy Watkins or Paul Richardson... all 3 guys 25 or younger and all UFA's...

I always thought TSmith was a perfect candidate for a restructure until all these back issues started popping up.

A restructure only gives him money in March that would be guaranteed after game 1.

They just give him most of his 2018 salary in March instead of during the season.

The ramifications beyond 2018 are the same. They could restructure and not use the extra money. If they do use the extra money then that has ramifications but that's really a separate issue from Tyron.

Dez cut or traded - 8.5mil
Witten retires - 6.5mil
Scandrick - 1.4mil
Mayowa - 2.7mil
Hanna - 2.75mil

Add in 21.85 from what i added above

Dallas could have 43mil in cap.
But i dont think Witten will retire, and idk if Dallas will part with Dez. So realistically 27-29mil in cap room for 2018

Just guessing Zeke's comtract will be adjusted down a little because of the suspension, but maybe not.

12.5M for Dez as a designated June 1st cut.

I don't think they tag Lawrence. I think they sign him long term.
I'm not saying that's what I want, or that it's the right thing to do, but I am saying I think that happens.
