How much could we get for Akin Ayodele

If a team in need of linebackers was willing to trade a pick for Akin Ayodele, what is your conservative estimate for how much we could get for him and why?

This thread is for off-season-blues discussion purposes. We HAVE to free up some cap room asap, and with Kevin Burnett, Bobby Carpenter, and Zach Thomas all ready to compete, Ayodele becomes the one starter we can afford to lose/possibly benefit from doing so. Immediately saving $500,000 in cap room, and even more in 2009 is huge.

I intended on creating a poll but for some reason I don't have that option.

whatever it would be, cheese doodles would probably be included.

You have to be zone supporter to post polls IIRC...

I wouldn't be terribly upset if we got something in return for Ayodele, but i doubt it'd be much more than a 5th or 6th rounder.

I think there may already be a thread on this exact subject...

I really don't see anyone trading for him, he had what 57 tackles last year starting 16 games at a position that should lead the team in tackles.

The return probably wouldn't be worth the depth he brings. He's not a big money player anyway. He only got $5 million in signing bonus.

If he's really that bad, then Bobby Carpenter should have no problems beating him out of a spot in an open competition.

I suspect the Patriots could be interested in return for their original first round pick.

He's a good depth guy, is cheap and doesn't clear up enough cap space to sign a replacement so why get rid of him?

To me, it's a numbers game. Carp, Burnett and or Ayodele have to go. JMO

Unfortunately, only the top players get top draft picks in return. I would rather trade Ayodele for another player, that way you actually get an NFL caliber player instead of the slight possibility that a 6th round pick represents.

I think we should keep Akin around. Zach has checked out medically, but what if he goes down or another linebacker goes down. Having depth at a critical position such as linebacker in a 3-4 defense is good.

If they need cap room, Im sure other contracts can be restructered to give us more cap room.

It is numbers issue this year, but then when you look closely, it's a depth issue next year.

Burnett - Could be his last year here. He should be an UFA and wants to start.

Zach Thomas - signed what is virtually a one-yr deal.

Ayodele - If he's still on the roster, will have one year left after 2008.

Carp - Not sure on Carp, but I think he'll also have one year left after 2008.

I think the "depth" we speak of will be re-written next year.

Doubt we get much for Ayodele who definitely underachieved this year unless his former DC whose now back with Atlanta wants him back. Also don't know what kind of cap hit we take if we cut/trade him and he could be a solid backup behind Thomas & Burnett for this year -- unless we add an ILB in the draft or Carpenter shows he woul be better there then Ayodele.

I'm betting (actually hoping) that Carpenter takes his starting spot this coming season. If he's going to ever make a move, this off-season is the time. I figure Thomas will primarily be in on the nickel.

hopefully a pre-release copy of madden 2008 so we can all trade players we don't even have yet cause trading is such fun.
