How much does Dalton starting have to do with comp picks?

Is it possible that they're only starting Andy Dalton to try to market him so that another team signs him next year and the Cowboys get a compensatory pick?

Or the Jones boys want to make themselves look smarter for signing him. I know the Gilbert signing can also be attributed to them equally but this was considered a marquee signing for a backup at that time.

Is it possible that we are trying to win games?

Not everyone is lame and cares about nothing but a high draft pick. Some of us actually root for our team to win. Go figure. Fans who want to win

Isn't he on an one year deal? Do they get comp picks under those circumstances? Seems dumb to me.

Andy might sign a team friendly contract & just stay in Dallas. When have we ever worried about our backup QB?

Edit: We worry about everything down to who's on the practice squad. I was referring to Jerry & Stephen.

I don't think him starting has anything to do with it.....its mainly based on the contract they get when they leave, etc. and offset by FAs we sign.

and hows that been working out for ya...
Tricky question because hoping their team loses to get a higher, not necessarily better, draft pick doesn't sit well with some of them. And this "wanting them to play hard but lose" is BS. Got to really hate this team to wish for that.

If I could actually do that, I wouldn't watch them play. Something wrong with the feel of that and it doesn't sit well with my lengthy history with this team. Every Cowboys player and team that was down comes back to me because I didn't quit on them but I was quitting on this team until I slapped myself around.

I didn't feel this way until I saw them respond after the rat in the root cellar tried to do his damage. As long as they play for each other, I will not do anything but pull for them.

better answer, and understandable.

You're right, but if he doesn't start and play well, he won't get much of a contract if/when he leaves Dallas.

Either way, Dalton isnt getting a contract from another team that would warrant anymore than a 6th at most.

Is it really a big deal to have that?

Certainly doesnt enter into coaches or FO mind at any point as a reason to bench or play someone.

No, it’s because they’ve been watching Dalton in practice ever since training camp, playing well, and he had only one game starting this year and that was without Zach Martin and the OL completely shot. It the last two games tell you anything, it’s how much of an impact player ZM is. Dalton also went 9-11 and over 100 yards in a win against the Giants when he got decent time with ZM in.

All teams were during that stretch without Zach Martin was blitzing the hell out of the young line during that stretch.

Or they are trying to tank without really saying they are tanking.

I have never heard of such a thing, actually rooting for your team to win? Pure craziness I tell you.
