to sign for a long term contract?
Assuming he keeps playing well and BP and JJ decide he is the future.
I am thinking something like 8 mill a year for 7 years with a 15 mil signing bonus.

He keeps playing like he has been for the next 2 years ....... he will be worth whatever he asks for ..... Payton Manning/Tom Brady money ....

and well worth it .

From the broadcast booth and nerve center of accurate thinking and tower of truisms:

Um, I think he just got through signing a contract that will keep him here for several years. Happened around the time camp convened.
But he's the QB of America's team and he's (reportedly) is dating Jessica Simpson, so what else could he want?

If he keeps playing at this level, it is going to take huge dollars to keep him.

The signing bonus will probably be in 2 stages (ie '07 & '08). That way Jerry has an out if Romo falls off the rails next year, for whatever reason.

But Jerry has been looking for Aikman heir apparant for a long time. Now that it looks like we have found him, Jerry will do whatever it takes to keep him.

I'm thinking Drew Brees type money. Hopefully a little less.

I would pay him the minimum.
No need to over pay as long as we have Bledsoe.

:lmao2:

sorry

It was just through 07. He WILL NOT be playing under that contact next season. That's a guarantee.

It was only a 1-year extension. He's only signed through '07.

Jerry isn't cheap and we've got a very good cap situation. If Romo can have another 4 games like he just had (out of the 6 remaining), he'll be looking at a nice fat raise and a long term deal.

We can't wait two years to sign him - we have to do something by the end of next season or other teams will get their shot at him.

What I am finding is that in September he signed for a two-year contract for $3.9 million and at the time Jerry Jones called the young feller the QB of the future. with a $2 million bonus and $900,000 salary for this year.
Guess Jerry didn't figure Romo would play much this year.

I have high hopes for Romo but let us put off anointing him as the 50 million dollar man. Aaron Brooks looked good out of nowhere in New Orleans for about two years and then began to fertilize the field. Wait and see, when his contract expires and he has Dallas in contention in large part by his play then offer him the big smackers.

It should cost Romo and arm and a leg to stay with the Cowboys once his contract is redone, and JJ will pay...

But, it would be hard watching Romo play with only his other arm and leg?

Approx $6 million.
