What we will ever do without Swaim? Losing him will destroy this whole youth movement rebuild!

Is this a joke? Swaim will cost $0 next year and no one will care that he’s gone. Jarwin and the rookie will make him an afterthought for next season.

Swaim being here next year will depend a lot on how well Schultz and Wells and Jarwin and Gathers do. Yes, Swaim is a great blocking TE but so were Schultz and Wells in college and both catch well and run great routes. Swaim isn't even a lock to make the 53, he will have to earn it.

People are talking about Byron Jones, Irving, Dlaw and others expiring after this season and rightfully so, but how come nobody is talking about Geoff swaim? The best run blocking TE on the team and probably our starter this year and long term if we keep him.

So what is a fair value for him? Around $7m a year? Or more? Don't want to see him leave because of price like Hitchens.

James Hanna averaged about 2.5M when he signed a 2nd contract.

Swains a perfect example of the type of guys the front office is happy to let walk. They want to pay the offensive/defensive lines (2 of the most important position groups & that's where the elite talent is), and rotate skill guys and average performers through the draft. Guys like Zeke, Dak, & Byron play important positions and are the next guys in line to get paid. Unless Swaim is an elite performer, he won't get a second contract. The team tends to draft guys in positions where contracts are running out. Shultz for Swaim and Scarborough for Smith are two examples.

Swaim ain't gettin' 7M a year. If he wants that, he can just swim away. I doubt he's the #1 by the 5th game, if he's that to start the season. He's a bit player with a small part.

We are miles from knowing if Swaim is a long term starter. Hell, I think we are a way from knowing he will even be on the team long term. He is starting now as the lead dog at the TE position because he is the only TE we have with any NFL experience at all, but the lead isn't by a lot, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he loses the lead over the year.

The fact is, to date Swaim has been a 3rd team TE, and you are talking about what we will pay him for being a 1st team TE and long term in that role. That just doesn't make sense at this point. Only time will tell if he grabs hold of the position and can hold it over time. If he does we can talk about his salary then.

I think if they decided to keep him that’s about the market
I also think unless he really shows something this year there is no reason to keep him

You know our TE depth is questionable when people are concerned whether Geoff Swaim gets resigned next year.

Let’s see what the other TE do and what he does this year. It’s his money to lose. No other team will offer him 7 million. No other TE had a chance to do much while we had Witten here. No is the time for these guys to show up. They need to be able to block.

Ain't you the same guy that wanted us to trade Chaz for a third?

Whatever it takes. We must keep Swain at all costs. This franchise cannot withstand another departure like Escobar's.

Bingo. Some can say the offensive line sucked, or Dak regressed, or Zeke being out caused us to have a subpar season. Not at all.
With the dynamic duo of Gavin Escobar and Swaim leading the way, we won the division in 2016.
Without Escobar, Swaim single-handily won 9 games for us, but we missed Escobar in those clutch moments and the team sputtered to a 9-7 record.
Could be looking at a 0-16 record if we can't afford Swaim.

trash?
don't think so.
Jarwin could end up starting.
UDFA starting at tight end. That's like saying happy thanksgiving... handing out the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, veggies and cranberry sauce, but forgetting to make stuffing.
