How much should we pay to keep Beasley?

I think it's obvious he's Dak security blanket and quite frankly the best receiver we have. There were reports he turned down an offer from the right before the season started. Not sure if he didn't like the offer or he intends to test free agency. Either way just curious what others think the max we offer in a long-term deal. I was think something averaging $7M-$8M guaranteed for three years. Is this too much?

That sounds about right. I was thinking maybe 2 years with a 3rd year option at about that same pay area. Once we can upgrade the WRs and Gallup develops, it should make Beasley even more effective. I don't know what Bease is thinking he may well want to test the waters, he has been pretty outspoken on issues at times, so he may want a change.

I don’t think we should pay that much. In fact, if I were the Cowboys FO, I would probably let him walk unless he agreed to a smaller contract than he’s going to ask for.

I know to some that sounds sacrilegious, but most fans overrate their favorite players. I like Beasley a lot. But if we’re being completely honest, he’s not even in the top 40 receivers in this league. He will be 30 next April which means he isn’t going to get better.

There will be better receivers available in FA and perhaps the draft. Again, I like Cole Beasley. But frankly, he’s overrated on these boards.

May sound strange but I actually he more valuable to us (Dak) than the open market. You're right he seems to have taken more leadership of that unit.

Should draft another slot receiver and try to convert him to RB/gadget player.

Due to the said state of the WR core, keeping him wouldn't be a bad move, but wish we had a younger guy to take over the slot.

It's a position we have no real depth at and no longer term players other than Gallup. Draft is an option, but like it's been said and shown before very few WRs make an immediate impact. FA is an option depending on what's out there and at what price. I think a 2 year deal maybe with a 3rd yr option is reasonable. It gives time for Gallup and possible future rooks to develop while still keeping some talent and continuity going forward.

Quite possibly, but there are a couple of other WR needy teams out there. It could also be he simple wants a change, he's voiced some concerns at different times and may want to move on.

Was just thinking this, $7 to $8 million is too much. That is half of what a #1 WR gets paid. Though if we draft a WR, he will be on a rookie contract. But still, way too much for Beasley. There will be options next spring. Just hope the old loyal Jerry doesn't show up and overpay him.

Those are all good points Roadie. The problem is going to be that Beasley will be looking for a 4 year deal at aged 30. He certainly has some value, but he’s not in the level of a Wes Welker, who has become the model for a valuable slot receiver. And on that topic, look at what NE decided to do when Welker turned 30- they let him walk and won a SB.

They did he is playing in Pittsburgh
really so where are the Switzer highlights? where are all the Pittsburgh highlights LOL? if you look at the market top wr are getting 16-19 mil per year Bease is 2nd level type guy so 7-8mil per is the going rate...dez was making 12 correct so bease isn't worth 7? sounds about what the market will bare and really that the nature of sports, his production might call for 3-4 but market is set at 7-8 for a guy like him...we just have to decide the years..Im torn given the state of our TE/WR core we might need to keep him until Gallup and others Develop..

Oh, the hindsight rue post for an average player at best. His 5 or 6 catches for what 35 yards really was the difference in that Steelers loss.
And oh, that KO from 4 yards deep in the end zone, late when they needed field position, but got to what, the 15 yard one.
I don't miss those other.

Hey, if they would have traded Beasley and kept Switzer, I probably would have been ok with that, but we did not need both of them.
But in my hindsight, I am glad we still have Beasley.

Honestly, I think that Gallup might make a very good slot WR. He doesn't really have the speed to play outside and has the type of skillset to play in the slot. I think he can develop similar to Tyler Boyd for Cincy. Similar size, skillsets, measurables and their scouting reports are very similar. He's not the type to burn you deep, but can make life tough for a defense running the intermediate and shorter routes. Just needs time to adjust to the NFL game and polish his technique.

1. Beasley is a good player
2. Beasley is not worth $7-$8M AAV to me
3. Slot receivers are one of the more easy positions to get production out of
4. Beasley is getting up there in age

I normally like doing my own research, but I'm going to be lazy. Who are the highest paid slots in the league?

It's also not fair to compare anything to what the Pats do, their organization is far better than ours and most others. You can't emulate what they do unless you have their people and system in place. Just because he's looking for a 4yr deal, doesn't mean he's going to get it, especially at his age. It would be doubtful another team would offer more than 3yrs.

It was a joke.

Nevermind I dont want to rely on someone else.

BR ranked the best slots from 2017 here are their rank and AAV contract

1. Baldwin- $11.5
2. Thielen- $4.8 WHAT A STEAL
3. Tate- $6.2
4. Fitz- $11
5. Landry- $15.1
6. Allen- $11.2
7. Juju- Rookie
8. Agholor-rookie
9. Shepard-Rookie
10. Sanu- $6.5M

Beasley was ranked 17th

Landry set the new bar for slot receivers.

I don't think Bease can ask for anywhere near amount though.

Somewhere around the Sanu/Tate contract #'s I guess would be fair.
