Sheeeesh...we tagged 45 on them in week 1...OK, I'll give you that one, 1st game of the season...

Then we scored 31 against them in Week 10...

Even though it makes me ill to say it... the gnats D came on strong in the playoffs...And finally, holds the BEST Team Ever, which I assume includes the BEST Offense ever...to a mere 14 points in the Superbowl!!! That gnat D was really dominant and as far as I am concerned should have been given the MVP award... What changed?????? Where was this dominant D during the regular season???

Is this just an example of a team peaking at the right moment?

Someone please explain this to me...

They matched up well vs. the Pats. Especially since the O-line had gotten alittle banged up during the game. Also they're scheme during the game was great. Played they're CB's up tight, and pretty much just gave up the quick screens or slants to Welker. I wouldn't say they have a dominant defense....

As far as the playoffs:

Tampa: no offense
Dallas: we beat ourselves
Green Bay: sub zero conditions

their defense played well the entire second half of the season. when you have 3 potential dominant pass rushers like they do, your defense can has a lot of options.

They became dominant after we let them off the hook when we settled for a FG in the third quarter of our playoff game following our 2nd consecutive long time consuming drive.

Spagnuolo had a great game plan for the Super Bowl. He was coming up with some good blitz packages that NE couldn't pick up. Tuck had a monster game coming from the DT position. Plus, when you don't have to worry about the run and your defensive line can just rush up field and try and get to the qb, that is going to be a tough task for the O-line. Did you see how they were able to tee off on Romo late in the game when they knew he would have to drop back every single time?

In hindsight, if NE would have run more screens and draws they would have been more effective cause the line was coming up field hard every time. But when you have Tom "Terrific" back there, who could blame them...lol

I think at halftime against us they decided the only way they could beat us is to go all out and blitz every play. It worked out and they just kept the same theme. Their secondary is week and that was the only way to keep teams from picking them apart.

I believe that's when their defense morphed.

we have the most talented team in the league. we also have one of the worst playoff coaches in the league.

that is all.

Not only were the front four dominant, the Giants made an effort to man a CB on Wes Welker, and sometimes even double him. They took away the short-dump that were really effetcive fore Brady. Even when Welker caught the ball for the Super Record, his yardage number wasn't that high.

Where we were exposed, those are clear areas where we are lacking in talent.

  1. Attitude
  2. Will
  3. Determination
  4. Luck
  5. Scheme - they were able to limit the ineffectiveness of their weak secondary by having (how many?) 3 or 4 PURE, REAL DE's

In the final analysis, it was the Giants' coaching.

Something Wade and Stewart should learn from.

All i gotta say is: don't let Wade get to 0-5 as a HC in the playoffs.

Strahan+Osi+Tuck = good pass rush with 3 guys.

A good pass rush can shore up the most mediocre defense. Im surprised New England didn't run more.

They became dominant somewhere between Jerry refusing to draft a CB before the 7th round and last Sunday.

They peaked, with luck, skill, and good coaching, at just the right time of the year. The playoffs.
