How realistic is this idea?

my father in law and I were spit balling ideas to help Dallas in the draft. How realistic would it be if Dallas picked Calvin Ridley at 19 (not sure where he is actually projecting, that’s probably already too unrealistic) and then packaged our 2nd TWill and a 3rd to move back into the late first round to target Vita Vea? Again I’m not big into college and only start learning about players after the season has ended.

I like his separation speed as opposed to us throwing a jump ball to Dez

Fair enough. I just have always like those big run stuffing DTs that play with power and intensity. From what I’ve seen of him that’s his game.

I agree that we need that type of player, but that’s too much to give up for a 1 tech imo. Regardless of who it is, the 1 tech is rarely going to play more than 60% of snaps in games. 2nd and 3rd is a big investment. Plus I just don’t think Vea is that special...

The more I’ve watched I agree. Pass on him. Bryan and Wilkins I still want though

TWill has no significant value in a trade. If team wanted to pay his salary he would have received offers last year as a free agent.

Vea is a 1tech DT. Those tend to be one of the most affordable positions in free agency. The very best 1tech is Snacks Harrision and he averages 9.2M per. The best WR, DE, etc. get about double that.

Quality (maybe not elite) 1techs Poe and Logan both played on 1-year, 8M deals in 2017.

No way to know this early where Ridley will get drafted. He has a thin frame which will give some teams pause about drafting him really high. I think 19 is possible but not a high probability.

There are some other good WRs that will get discussed more after the combine.

Keep in mind that if you look back at draft ranking in Jan of previous years and compare to the actual draft, it is always significantly different. Unfortunately the old rankings are usually no longer available.

Some years I have saved the rankings from this time of year and compared after the draft. It almost comical some years on how wrong they were.

There will be many people that will tell you "no way that player will be available" or that your are reaching on your projection or mock but many of those people will be comically wrong.

In the past CBS had the best overall rankings IMO, but one of the main guys is gone and they don't seem to have a good rankings list up on their site now.

The mock draft sites are not realistic. They are designed to make users feel like they are great at drafting by giving them a 1st round talent in the 4th.

I like seeing someone get interested in learning more.

I had been watching football quite awhile before I really started digging into the extreme details and watching a lot of game footage of draft prospects. The internet obviously made researching players so much more feasible for fans than back in the day of just getting scraps from newspapers or ESPN.

Vita Vea is my first round pet cat and he could be a huge get. I'm not as sold on the WR need as some fans...

my three concerns OT,DT1,WR
your positions I agree with
I'm fairly comfortable with McClays eye and slotting.
What X said about Ridley's thin build makes me think he cant block
and with Linehan if you cant block you dont get on the field. Think Escobar.
Yes I know TE and WR are different responsibilities.Thats why they like Brown [he blocks]

Thats a great idea but Vita Vea is not the type of player that Marinelli wants for his Tampax II defense. I think a big space occupier like Vita Vea is exactly what we need.
